Three Prominent Speakers Three prominent men are on the program as speakers during the commencement week at the Clinton Community High school.

Dr. F. F. Shannon of Chicago is to deliver the commencement address on the evening of Friday, May 29. Dr.

Shannon is a noted Chicago pastor whose addresses from Orchestra hall are familiar to radio receivers. He is an exceptionally strong speaker. Dr. C. Harmon Johnson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Clinton is to deliver the baccalaureate address in the Presbyterian church Sunday, May 24, at 7:30 o'clock.

The class day exercises will be held on Wednesday afternoon, May 27, at 2 o'clock. May 28 has been set as commencement day for pupils who will graduate from the eighth grade in Clinton. The exercises will be held in the First Methodist Episcopal church with Dr. Chesteen Smith, pastor of the M. E.

church of Decatur, delivering the address. While the program for the commencement has not yet been completed, it is the intention of the officials in charge of the day to make it of an unusually interesting nature, Supt. Edmunds stated today. The entire program will be made public at a later date. Buys Grocery Interest A deal was closed Saturday afternoon whereby Harry S.

Gowdy has purchased the interest of T. A. Hull in the firm of Hull Gowdy, grocers. This firm has been doing business for the past two years, but previous to that time was conducted by Mr. Hull.

Mr. Hull who is retiring from the business, has made no definite plans for the future. The business is well established and Mr. Gowdy in taking over the entire interest of his partner becomes the proprietor of a good busiDess. Miss Mabel McClelland, of this city, who has been receiving treatment in Dr.

Petit's sanitarium in Ottawa, for the past 17 months, has practically recovered from her illness and returned to her home here Sunday. Miss McClelland is one of Clinton's most prominent young women and she has many friends here who will be glad to learn of her recovery and her return home. May May, 8, was the closing day of the fiftythird term as a school teacher for J. Savidge of Farmer City, Illinois' oldest active count: school head. Bracken school, where Mr. Savidge hag taught for four years, is "out" again. Mr.

Savidge taught at the Swigart school, southwest of Caryer City, in 1870, his first term. Charles Swigart, C. M. Johnson and B. L.

Newberry, of Farmer City were among his first pupils. The "salary" at that time was $16 2-3 month and board. Since that time this veteran has been at the head of every school in Rutledge township, the same in Santa Anna township, except one, Glendale, and the same in Nixon except one, the Champion. Mr. Savidge taught for 35 years in three districts, Black, 11 years; Greenleaf, 12, and Farmer City, 12.

Several times Mr. Savidge has taught children whose grandparents were his pupils years ago in the "hickory switch" days. There are two instances at present. It would be a great spectacle if all the children who have been in his schools could answer his "bell" once again. Many of the business men of Farmer were his pupils when they were Among them are lawyers, bankers, merchants, clergymen, dentists, and legislators.

The reunion will be heid during the first week in June in connection with the sequi-centennial celebration of the founding of Lexington, June 4, 1775, by a party of hunters who had just heard of the battle of Lexington. C. C. Boone, Mattoon, a brother of the present-day Daniel, also may attend the reunion.

The Boone Family association will meet in Lexington and pass the week visiting places made famous by the intrepid, buckskin clad woodsman 150 years ago. One of the features of the reunion will be a pilgrimage to the Boone grave at Frankfort upon which the calvacade will be headed by a military escort. The bluegrass governor will dress the descendants following the placing of a wreath on the grave. Clinton Saturday prepared to conduct the free cooking school for the Anniversary stores in the "K' building. The school is entirely different from one which miss Edna Sullivan conducted last year.

Different recipes and different methods will be used so that the women are sure of entirely new recipes. Miss Shumard came to Clinton from Decatur where she conducted a cooking school a week ago. Corn Farmer Honored Sheldon Jones, of Weldon, took first place in the Dewitt county seed corn exhibit of the National Seed Corn Show held in Chicago recently under the auspices of the Agricultural Foundation, according to a report reaching the Dewitt County De Farm bureau office at Clinton. C. Hettinger Dead Grover C. Hettinger, of Farmer City, Ill for several years and unable to walk for the past few months, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Hettinger Saturday night.
