Talented jazz drummer, 25 years with Walt Harper was, said Harper, an impassioned fan of the music who also taught drumming at BidweU Center in the North Side. "Very dedicated to the music, to jazz," said Harper. "He was like a biography of jazz.

He could tell you something about every drummer. His hero, more or less, was Max Roach." In addition to his wife in Homewood, he is survived by a sister, Sue Lockett of Squirrel Hill; and a Drother, Roper Logan of Plum. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon today in the George Douglas Funeral Home, 721 Brushton Homewood. Services will be at noon.

Mr. Logan was known in the local jazz community as the drummer, for 25 years, in Walt Harper's Quintet. Harper described him as both "a very quiet, unassuming person" and "an excellent drummer." Logan i By Ed Masley Post-Gazette Pop Music Critic Jazz drummer Bertie H. Logan Jr. died of uremia Saturday in the Wilkins House Care Facility in WiMnsburg. He was 75. As a teen, Mr.

Logan divided his drumming between the Rankin High School band and nightclub and radio gigs with local jazz band Gertie Long and her Night Hawks. From there, he went on to become the youngest member of the George Washington Carver Marching Band. During World War II, he was drafted into the Army's 92nd Division. While in Europe, Mr also studied medicine in Flo rence, Italy. A decorated soldier, Mr.

Logan was awarded three bronze stars, the World War II victory medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Returning to the United States and civilian life, Mr. Logan married Hilda Parr, his childhood sweetheart. "We grew up together," his wife said. "We'd known each other as babies." Their 52 years of marriage were happy ones, she said.

GERTRUDE A. Resident of Erie, PA died suddenly April 29, 2000. She was the daughter of the late John J. Barber, Sr. and Kathryn Cantwell Barber.

She was preceded in death by two sisters; Cecelia and Marion Barber and by six brothers; George B. Barber, Robert A. Barber, John J. "Walla" Barber, former mayor Charles R. Barber, Judge Thomas W.

Barber and Attorney Joseph C. Barber. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Martin (Kathryn) Durkin of Erie along with many nieces and nephews. Friends are Invited to call at the Barber residence, 405 Sanford PI.
