Fames and Thomas Durfee, were unanimously elected Clerks of the House fur the year ensuing, and were sworn into office by the Speaker. A message was received from the informing the House that that body was or-! ganized and ready to proceed to business.

The House sent a similar message to the Senate, and invited it to join the House for the purpose of opening the session with prayer. The Senate joined the House, and a very excellent and impressive prayer was offered by the Rev. Dr. Choules, of Newport. The two houses then separated.

A conmunication was real from the Hon. Charles Jackson, representative from Scituate, resigning his seat, on the ground that his res idence was not gufiicient to entitle Lim to the office it was received and referred to a special committee. coisigting of Messis Boawunh.z Ames and Wheaton. By invitation, the Senate then joined the House, in Grand Conunittee, for the purpose of receiving and counting the votes for General Officers, for the eusuing vear IN GRAND COMMITTEE. His excellency, Gov.

Haruis, took the chair, and called the Grand Committee 1o der, and requested the members to hand 1o the votes of the respective towns, as called by the Secretary.
