Congressman Harmar D. candidate for election in the nacle, Stevenson sharply edited the text of his adrress in which he had again accused Eisenhower his Republican rival for the presidency of having "surrendered to Taft," who bid unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination. In the advance copies of his speech handed to newsmen, Stevenson had accused Eisenhower of chanting the theme song of the Kremlin in contending that America's prosperity is based on war and rearmament.

However, the Illinois governor omitted the charge in the speech he delivered. He also omitted a prepared text statement that the general had resorted to "mean Twenty-eighth district, called yesterday for an increase in Republicans 'Had Own Scandals, Musmanno Says Democratic Administration Defended By Justice in Campaign Radio Talk By JOHN E. San Antonio was the fourth Texas city visited by Eisenhower today as he toured the Lone Star state by air in one of the key maneuvers of his campaign. His top advisers have been told that in Texas he has the best chance to knock a link out of the solid chain of southern Democratic states. He drew big. and apparently enthusiastic, crowds all along the route. His advisers appeared to be vastly encouraged tonight with the results.

Is this what you want to keep? Are they trying to get you to keep the Deep South and the Dixiecrats who really' run the Democrat Party? Do they want you to continue to accept segregation in the armed forces and in Washington, the nation's capitol? Does their tune mean: Don't let them take away Communists and fellow-travelers in government? Or, are they anxious for you to keep high taxes and exorbitant Government expenditures? Maybe, they mean don't take away the misery and suffering caused by the undeclared war in Korea. Do they want us to keep in power the Democrat bosses who placed John Sparkman on their 'national ticket, even though they knew that Sparkman has fought against every advance in civil rights legislation during his 16 years in the Senate? My people do not want these things no matter how the Democrats pretty them up at election time. They don't want them on the national scale any more than they want them on the local scene. We cannot help realizing that in this city's administration "many Negroes are hired, but few are upgraded." We don't think that the Democratic administration has to pass a fair employment practices ordinance before ending segregation in its own fire department. Nor do they need to pass FEP laws before they honor Negro policemen's passing grades in civil service examinations.

Too many Democrats think that all the Negro wants is a pork-chop dinner just before election, and a few minor jobs after, election. I say let them take it away. We don't want it, they can have it, that's not enough for me. operation today. Twenty years ago there were only 2.9 million.

The total annual value of goods and services originating in business is at an all-time high of 5302 billion. It was S54 billion in 1932. Industrial production is nearly four times greater than in 1932. Expenditures for new plants and equipment soared to $23.1 billion in 1951, compared with $2.6 billion in 193' In 1951 retail sales reached $151 billion. The total was $25 billion in 1932.

Total assets of corporations came to $701 billion in 1951. The total was $268 billion in 1932. Corporation profits after taxes were $18 billion in 1951, compared with a deficit of $3.4 billion in 1932. The income of independent business and professional people rose from $3.2 billion in 1932 to $23.7 billion in 1951. Adjusted for the higher cost of living, this was a real income three times as great as in 1932.

How did business get good? A Democratic President and a Democratic Congress did something to help people find work and get a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. These people spent this money buying the products of farm and factory. Almost everybody has more income today in terms of purchasing power than ever before. Twenty years of Democratic progress have multiplied our real personal incomes by over two and a half times since 1932. Even compared to 1929.

Americans' real income has nearly doubled. Every major working group has greatly increased its income. There are some persons shouting for a change but I don't know what they want to change to. The $600,000 electronic computer will be used by CBS television to see whether its prodigious capacity for making calculations and analyses will make it possible to indicate the final outcome with a fair degree of accuracy on the basis of incomplete returns. Officials of Remington Rand, which built the machine, emphasize that it isn't psychic. But they and CBS say it will make possible comparisons on a scale and at a speed that would be impossible by conventional methods. It will be the first use of one of the giant electronic computers on election returns.
