Southern California defeated Pittsburgh, the undefeated Eastern eleven here today in the Rose Bowl, 47 to 14. The Trojans, who played one of the best games of the year. had a much stronger attack than the Panthers, and they made ground when yards meant scores. Their defense was almost. as strong, although they permitted Pittsburgh to score by the use of two forward passes.

Pitt was 'unable to penetrate the stiff Southern California defense and it was not until they started to forward pass that the Easterners made any ground. Duffield had returned a Pitt punt to the U. S. 48-yard line. On first down Saunders blonde substitute tossed a pass to Mortenson, which the latter caught on the 20-yard line and carried to the one. Two plunges got it over, Duffield carrying on the touchdown play.

The rest between halves didn't help the Panthers any, for soon after the kickoff Pinckert intercepted a Parkinson pass on the nu 45 and started a sustained running drive that brought a touchdown in seven plays. Saunders and Shaver shot into the line down to the 1-yard mark, where the former was hurt. After resumig play, however, he acted very little like an injured man. for on the first play he shot around right end and crossed the line standing up. Shaver kicked the goal to make it 33-0.

After the succeeding kickoff Pitt took over the edge for a few moments, working her way along carefully for her first Touchdown. A 16- yard run by Walinchus and a 14- yard pass to him from Baker put the ball in position, and Uansa tossed a pass over the goal line to this same Walinchus for the score, after which Parkinson converted the extra point by placement. Pitt was first to cross the last chalk mark in the final period. Charley Edwards intercepted Duffield's pass on the Pitt 49, running it down to the Trojan 36. On first clown Williams.

Racehorse Russell tossed -a pass to Edelson, who was ab. solutely in the clear, and made a 7 fancy catch over his shoulder while going at full speed. He pulled the ball in on the Panther 8-yard line and speeded over through a clear 7field. A fumble by Walinchus paved the way for the next western score. Attempting to grab the ball on a re-Verse play.

Shaved added one at right guard. but fumbled when he was tackled, and MacMurdo recovered for Pitt on the Trojan 39. Baker's forward pass was incomplete. Walinchus on a reverse made six at, right end. Uansa added a yard at right tackle.

Baker's long pass dead and U. S. C. took the ball On downs on their 31. Saunders made 3 at left Saunders added 3 at right Saunders failed to gain at left end' and Pitt was penalized 15 for unnecessary roughness.

Quatse was the offender. It was first down for the Trojans on Pitt's 47. Saunders made 5 at left tackle. Shaver added 3 at center. Saunders added 3 at left tackle and first down on Pitt's 36.

Baker was hurt and Edwards went in for bun. Steponovitch went in for Arbelbide. Saunders tried right end, but Collins tossed him for a 3-yard loss. Saunders stepped out of bounds after gaining a yard. Edelson took Saunders' pass right out of tansa's hands on the Pitt 1 13 and ran over for a touchdown.

For U. S. C. the following substitutions were made: Williamson for Dye, Musick for Shaver and Baker for Barragar. Baker kicked goal.

Score: U. S. Pitt, 7. Anthony kicked off to Uansa on the eight-yard line. He returned to the 36.

Steponovitch broke through and tossed Walinchus for a two-yard loss. Walinchus got around right end for six. Parkinson failed at center. and Pitt was penalized 15 yards for holding. Edwards punted to Saunders on the U.

S. C. 35. He ran back to his 43 as the quarter ended. Score, t.

S. 40; Pitt 7. Fourth Period. Apsit went in for Edelson. Hoff went in for Hall.

For Pitt Williams replaced Walinchus. Saunders made 2 at center. Saunders passed to Pinckert for a 22-yard gain. Musick made 3 at center, but 17 S. was penalized 15 for holding.

Saunders' pass to Tappaan made IS Musick struck center for 9 and first down on the 20. Saunders failed at left tackle. Niusick picked tip a yard at right tackle. Edwards batted down Saunders' forward pass. Saunders' pass to Tappaan over the goal line was incomplete.

Uansa intercepted Saunders' pass on the Pitt 30 and ran back to his 49. Williams failed at right tackle Pitt took time out and waa penalized for delaying the game. Saunders knocked down Edwards long pass. Edwards failed to get off a pass and lost 19 yards. Saunders took Parkinson's punt on his 35.

but MacMurdo dropped him on the 36. Coach Jones substituted practically an entire new team. Moses made six at center. Saunders hit center for four and first down on the 46. Moses added four at center.

but U. S. C. was penalized 15 for holding. Duffield replaced Saunders, and Russell received a tremendous ovation as he left the field.

Edwards intercepted Duffield' pass on the 49 and ran back to the S. C. 36. Williams took a double pass front Parkinson and tossed a long amos to Collins, the latter catching the ball on the 6-yard line and running over for a touchdown. Parklimon kicked goal from placement.

Score---1 S. C. 10, Pitt 11. MacMurdo kicked off to Duffield on the one-yard line. Ile ran back to the 21.

Moses failed to gain at center. Duffield made nine at left tackle. Moses struck center for first Peters Kicks Two Field Goals-A nonchalant young man known to his Illinois classmates as Frosty Peters played an impressive Part, in the Eastern victory. Twice during the game he booted the pigskin between the uprights for field goals. Standing on the West 35-line in the second period he calmly lifted the ball to a score.

Rushed Into the battle again in the final period. wroen the West had fought the Easterners to a standstill, he repeated to chalk up the final tally for his team. Jack Cannon. Notre Dame's unanimous all-America selection, closed his college career with as outstanding an exhibition at guard of all-around playing am ever seen here. He was here.

there and everywhere time and again breaking through the Western line to throw ball carriers for losses. His teammate. TwomeY. and Booma of Dartmouth. Glasgow of Iowa and practically all the other Eastern players turned in performances that compared favorably with that of Cannon.

The East made its first score with a forward pass from Peters to Booma, the Dartmouth end romping 25 yards to a touchdown. Bronco Nagurski. Minnesota's versatile line and backfield star. had placed the East in scoring position on play through guard for 21 yards. Frosty Intercepts Pass.

Shortly after the second period opened the East got the ball on the West 24-yard line as the result of an intercepted pass by Peters and line plunges by Nag-urski and Glassgow. Peters, whose trusty toe on several occasions has brought victory to Illinois. then booted the team from the East to its second score ith a looping dropkick that carried 45 3ards. Long through the line by Nagurski and Giassgow with Cannon and Twomey clearing the way led to the East's second touchdown. Glassgow crashing Over right tackle from the 6-yard line to score, and Peters kicked the goal.

Coming back in sensational fashion, the West scored in a hurry to start the third period. Loin made 9 yards on the first play and Waldorf of Missouri packed the bail for a first down. Two more plays failed to gain. however, and the East got Lom's hurried punt on Its opponents' 40-yard line. Waldorf recovered an En-stern fumble, and the West started a drive which was not halted until the goal line was reached.

stars of the Mid-West, a husky, bard-driving group, proved superior to the Southwest All-Stars in a wild scoring battle here today. The score was 25 to 12. There was never much doubt of the outcome once the invaders opened up with their power plays in the second period. Pest Welch, their All-America quarterback. failed to score a touchdown, but he battered the lighter Southwest line to bits.

The Mid-West turned to the air, the very department at which their opponents were supposed to excel, to score two touchdowns in the third period and take an unpassable lead.
