SINGLE Qp COPIES QU VOL 50 THE SYCAMORE TRIBUNE SYCAMORE DEKALB COUNTY ILLINOIS RID AY OCTOBER 19 1951 NO 42 ENGINEER WILL SUBMIT SfWER PLANS OR CITY Postpone Purchase of Tractor The city counil gave the city engineer authority to submit plans and specifications for a proposed sewer project to the state depart ment of health during a special meeting Tuesday night In other action the council postponed action on the purchase of a tractor and agreed to provide the Sycamore Municipal hospital free water for a trial period of one year The council has not yet com mitted itself to building the new sewers it has merely asked for an okay on the plans drawn up by Walter Deuchler city engin eer and his company An accurate cost estimate still remains to be determined Deuch ler said that his old estimate of about $200000 was the only thing Hfhad to offer regarding the cost of the project While describing the detailed survey just completed Deuchler told the group the new system if put through provide enough sewer outlets for the next 75 Substantially the same as the general survey described to the council last May the new survey lists three main sewer through the east central and western parts of the city The new sewer routes Deuch ler said will provide for the new Turner and ox additions in the southeast and southwest sections of the city Helping to raise the cost of the project will be the depth to which some of the sew ers will have to be placed In one location ditches 26 feet deep will haye to be dug in order to lay the silver The new main sewer line pro posed to serve the eastern section of the city will start at the dis nosal nlant and extend east com ing through by the Julep property north of North avenue to High way 23 where it will turn south until it reaches Page street Along Page Street 'rom there the line will con tinue east along Page street tnen JPright turn down Locust street to Sycamore street The line will Continue along Sycamore street and turn right at Sabin street After crossing Route 64 it will go southwest and end up on the eastern outskirts of the Turner addition The new sewer planned for the central part of the city' starts at the disposal plant runs south on TAorth Cross street cuts over to trite Great Western railroad tracks and follows it down Ellen street It continues south on Mill street crosses DeKalb avenue and runs down Stark avenue At the end of Stark avenue it goes across two blocks and follows Carlson street out to the city limits The proposed route for the western part of the city starts from the disposal plant extends0st along the tracks and then runs diagonally to State street where it goes south along the city limits near the cemetery After considerable debate and two votes council decided to withhold a decision on the pur chase of a tractor until the needs of the city and the maintenance costs of a tractor are investigated more thoroughly Mayor Emil peisen appointed the whole ncil as a committee with Ai derman Paul Swedberg as chair mah to bring back a report dur ing the next meeting City To Aid Hospital Townsend representing the Sycamore Municipal hospital was successful in obtaining two concessions from the council The group 'voted to dispose of the hos pital rubbish on a temporary six irtpnth basis until an incinerator 'at the hospital is put into work ing order Hospital authorities are planning to construct an iticiner ator out of the old heat ing facilities In addition the council decided to provide the hospital with free water for one year on trial basis The hospital water bill from August 1 1950 to the same time this year amounted to lj0197 The police commission was giv en the power to act with regard to a petition read asking for po lice protection at the intersection of State and Governor streets during the hours school children are crossing the intersection The commission was authorized to ap point a 'temporary policeman for ew Matters for Grand Jury to Review Monday Two youths including one from Sycamore are scheduled to ap pear before the DeKalb county circuit court grand jury when it convenes October 22 Charles Nelson assistant attorney said Scheduled to appear are Will iam Wolfe 15 DeKalb and New York City and Clarence Coan Jr 16 Sycamore Coan is charged with assisting in the burglary of a DeKalb gas station on July 14 1951 and is free on bond Wolfe is charged with the theft of a car in DeKalb He was apprehended by Missouri officials on July 31 1951 and is being held in the DeKalb county jail on $5000 bond Jake Allen 47 Sycamore isbeing held in the county jail on an assault with a deadly weapon charge He may not be brought before the jury however be cause of insufficient evidence The grand jury will be the first to appear under Circuit Judge final rate is per bushel higher than the 1950 corn loan rate for the county This rate which is based on the Oc tober 1 parity price is higher than the tentative rate announced last spring prior to of the same gang which been operating throughout county during recent months In addition to the money about $1200 in checks and records val uable to the company were in the safe Entry to the building was gained by forcing a window on the south side of the structure which is located at the intersec tion of Elm and California streets The safe was setting in the front office visible from both streets through large windows' The burglars apparently carried the safe from the front office through another office and into the garage where it was placed on a cart and carried to a back door After opening from the inside a door facing south the thieves apparently loaded the safe which weighed about 400 pounds into a truck or car parked in a drive way Oil was spilled on the sur face of the alley and officials could determine that the thieves fled south on California street Nothing else appeared to be missing from the building Haley a company official said The cash drawer was pulled out but there was no money in it at the time Apparently the thieves stop to rifle the desks or steal any of the tools in the gar age The loss' was discovered by Louis Clot assistant manager at 6:50 Wednesday morning Clot came through the back way saw the cart lying in the driveway and the door ajar and went inside where he discovered that the safe was missing I Sheriff rancis Sullivan and 'Police Chief Vess Plapp investi gated the theft Wednesday morn ing Plapp also reported another theft Tuesday A gov ernment car driven by Rossell Chicago was broken into while parked on California street alongside
