PAYSON A project which began in the fall of 1974 was brought to its conclusion recently as some 1,200 feet of two inch water line was laid for the developing Old Pinery Recreation Site, operated by four LDS stakes in southern Utah County. The water line was tied into the springs higher in the mountains at the edge of the property, and now spring water runs in the line, according to water project chairman John W. Powell. "In addition to the mile of pipe which has been laid, we have installed two 500-gallon buoys, or storage units, as part of the pressure system," Mr. Powell said.

We desire expecially to extend our thanks and appreciation to those who took part at the services, offered expressions of sympathy, sent flowers, furnished cars, or in any other way assisted. Mrs. Ray Collings And Family in Santaquin Canyon is dormatory Mr. Powell explained.

Some fathers and sons outings at Old Pinery, located a few miles south of Nephi east of highway 91, have attracted several hundred participants for a dinner and overnight stay. Mr. Powell said there is a possibility that a restroom with flush toilets and a generator storage house could be built this fall, if the project is fast enough. Other on-5 projects include leveling of the playground area, planting of grass, buildng of picnic tables. and a permanent laying out of parking and camping areas.

"Work is continuing on the access road to Old Pinery, Mr. Powell said. "Nine miles of fencing and cattle guards have been built and installed," he added. The guards were built of scrap steel rail, collected during a recent four-stake-wide scrap metal drive. stake was assigned to collect three tons of scrap." Mr.

Powell explained. Don Yates of Nephi is chairman of the overall Old Pinery project, which IS conducted on a total voluntary basis. Partial Prints Become Clues To Bomb Blast SALT LAKE CITY (UPD) The only clues turned up so far by FBI laboratory tests on fragments found at the scene of last month's Kennecott Building bomb blast are couple of partial prints." Clark Brown of the Salt Lake office of the FBI, said today there is no way the prints can be used to find a suspect because a search of the massive print files requires complete prints. Brown said the prints could become useful if they could be compared to prints taken from a suspect. Brown refused to say what kinds of fragments were sent to the Washington lab.

He said more test results would probably be available within a week but the process was being held up by a move from one laboratory building to another in Washington, 'Stake Day' Announced As Project PAYSON The second annual Payson Utah East Day' has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Payson High School. UPI Telephoto New Methods To Be Used Raising Payson Jr. High PAYSON Students now enrolled in the seventh grade at Payson's Middle School can look forward to spending eighth and ninth grade in one of the educational plants in Utah" as they enter junior high school in two years. That was a promise made by Joe Reidhead, Nebo School District Superintendent, who said that the proposed new Payson Junior High School will be ready for occupancy when the 1977-78 school year begins. The new junior high school will replace the structure presently serving eighth and ninth graders, at the corner of 700 South and Main Street.

The building dates back to 1912. when there were rooms for grades seventh through twelfth, inclusive. The structure continued to serve as Payson. High School until 1968, when the present three million dollar high school plant was dedicated. At that time, the original building accommodated junior high grades only.

Swelling school enroliments brought about an enlargement of the old building with expanded auditorium, library and additional classromms. A separate gymnasium building was erected directly south of the main building about the same time. Now, the old junior high plant is "worn out," according to Superintendent Reidhead, who added that the building has been termed by sore as among the "worst educational plants in the state." The Nebo School Board recently approved a construction budget for the building's replacement, up to $2.5 million form the original estimate of $2.1 million. The higher figure was blamed solely on inflation since planning first began three years ago. Reidhead.

The superintendent said he is of obtaining as much as $1 million In financing from the state, since the state fire marshal and the state board of education both maintain the building must be replaced. The new school will be fully carpeted, according to Mr. Statistics BORN. AT UTAH VALLEY HOSPITAL Sept. 24 Boy to David and Kathleen Reeder Steed.

State, Provo Reidhead. Other important improvements include a larger cafeteria, equal gymnasium space and equipment among boys and giris, adequate music facilities, and all around better arrangement of departments and functions. It was noted the new junior high will have moveable walls so classroom size can be changed without major upheaval within the building According to Superintendent Reidhead, before construction can begin on the new junior high, the district will have to obtain nearly 25 acres adjoining land the school district already owns. The site is located between Payson High School and Highway 91 in southwest Payson. The new junior high will face the highway, and will be situated toward the north end of the property.

high campus will be about 25 acres in size, and some of the land to be purchased will be held for future expansion of Payson High School, Mr. Reidhead pointed out. Tentative agreement on a junior high floor plan containing about 70,000 square feet has been reached by the faculty, architect Roy Silver of Salt Lake City, and members of the Nebo Board. The architect has been given the green light to proceed with final drawings. It was revealed that the new junior high will have a capacity of 750 students compared to the present enrollment of 500.

When the capacity is used up, which, at the current growth rate may take up to 15 years, the building can be expanded at minimal cost, due to its design. Superintendent Reidhead said present plans are to open bids on the new plant in February or March of 1976, with construction scheduled to begin immediately afterward. The school is expected to be finished in about 15 months. "We're going to warehouse the building," Mr. Reidhead explained, adding this sytem has been credited with substantial savings in the Spanish Fork Junior High School complex and has been an important factor in speed of construction.

Warehousing' is a new construction concept whereby the contractor is allowed to buy materials at the lowest possible cost and store them until they are needed. This also assures availability of material when it is needed. Mr. Reidhead said a 7,200 square-foot warehouse will be erected at Payson High. When the junior high school is completed and the warehouse is no longer needed for storage, vocational education students at the high school will be utilized to finish the interior so the building can be used in a district wide construction trades program.

Payson High School will then become the center for instruction in all building trades skills for students from all sections of Nebo School District according to Mr. Corsages make lovely gifts for any occasion ROHBOCK SONS FLORAL 1042 S.
