The Telephone Dollar lie proposed increase telephone rates, effective November 1, 1924, is due to causes beyond our control. The reduced purchasing power of the dollar lies at the root of the problem. dollar buys less today than it did before the war. It buys less for us just as it buys less for you. The telephone company can buy less employees' time and buy less needed material with each dollar spent today than it could in 1913.

JThis is why we need more dollars to operate Maryland's telephone system for you and why we must ask more for the service. telephone rates have been increased about over the pre-war level. Wholesale commodity prices average higher than in and the cost of living averages over higher than before the war. With an increase of only in telephone rates, it is clear that they are out of adjustment with present price levels. THE CHESAPEAKE AND POTOMAC TELEPHONE COMPANY OF BALTIMORE CITY McCain Orchard Co.
