Receive riends Saturday In Commemoration of Golden Wedding and Mrs Robt Leech Saturday celebrated their golden wedding anniver sary at their residence 607 East Jefferson street The hours were from 2 to 4 4 to 6 and 7 to 0 Their aon John Leech who will undoubtedly be restored to the position of public printer was present at the celebration Robert Leech both In point of ad vanced years and duration of residence one of the oldest citizen of Bloomington which has been his home nearly half a century is now passing his sunset period tn the seclusion of the family circle the object of unfeigned respect and warm regard of a wide circle of friends Mr Leech is a native of the state of Pennsylvania where he was born In McKeesport September 2 1830 a son of James and Dorcas McKee) Leech being one of a family of nine children James Leech was also a Pennsylvanian by hirth the home of his childhood being In the vicinity of McKeesport His was in Indiana county Penn rjlvanla Both spent their entire lives In that state the occupation of James Leech being that of a farmer Politically he was an advocate of the principles of the Republican party In religion he and hl wife were adherents of the Baptist faith Robert Teech wag reared on his father's farm obtaining his education in the common schools In early manhood lie followed fanning but at a later period learned the trade of a mason and lias been engaged In that occupation during th greater part of his life In 1861 he settled in McLean county Illinois taking up his residence at Bloomington where he worked nt his trade for many years Mr' Leech was a anldb'P In the civil war having enllted August 1862 1n Com pany Nlnety foyrth reelment Illinois volunteer Infantry with which ho served until th close of thewar His mmpanv commander was Capt Denison and under ilm he look part in the battles cf Gor don Grove Vicksburg nrd lorida On March 1859 Loch was unit ex' with EHibeth Mikel who wf born in Ohl a daughter William and CathrlMn Warner) Mikel In 1861 th I apolar jn Mc Lean county on a farm consisting of 160 acres Before the death of William Mikel he had idded nearly 1000 acres to the nl purchase Ho died In 1879 nt the acre of CG yoarr His widow suivlved until IRSV had a faijlly pf thirteen chil dren ive children have been born to Mr and Mrs Leech as follows: Lenna Nor na James (deceased) John and (deceased) i In 'ollllc Mr working fnr God and the church nnd joined the Methodist persuasinn and so to complete hl edu cation he naturally rhnse a Methodist college md In the spring of 1867 he en tered th: IHtnola Wesleyan In Blooming His purree in life now was to be come a minister of th gospel and he ed hard to make himself proficient In all things necessary for this while In college In the spring nf 1871 he receive! his degree cf A and three years later was given that nf A Earl In his ministerial service he was chosen on of the conference trustees a noltton of great honor and trust In 1904 he was a delegate to the highest tribunal of th Methodist church the general conference held that year In Los Angelas C1 He was presiding elder of two different districts that of Champaign and of Springfield His first pastorate was In Twin Grove 111 rom the church there he went to Covel and then to Gibson City McLean Green Valley Tolono Virden Urbana and then w'as given the well known Vin cent street church In Quincy rom Quincy he went to Springfield He was transferred from that city to Lin coln and from Lincoln to Delavan which wax his last charge Rpv A Byerly was married three times Ills first wife was Miss Julia Moore daughter of Rev II Moors of the Illinois conference To this union were born three children Mrs Russell Johnson and Miss Julia Byerly of Springfield and lAwrenco Ryerly of Clinton This wife dld In 1898 In 1900 the Rev Mr Byerly married Miss Alice Sudduth who died in 1904 at Citronelle Ala On December 6 1996 he was mar ried to Mu' Anna Giberson of Car linville who survives him Death of Wilson Houser in this city have received word of the death of Mr Wilson Houser at his home In Los Angeles Cal Mr Houser has not been a resident of Me Iican county for the past twenty years but has a large number of friends and relatives here who will remember him and will regret to hear of his death The 1 ist letter received from him was to the effect that he was In good health and the message staling that he was dead was a Rhcck No particulars of the death were given deceased was In his 71st year and was the son nf Jonathnn find Susnn Houser who were early settlers in Ran dolph township north of Danvers In Dry Grove township aged 83 years The end came following an illness of two months due to the general debilities of old age Mr Gravette was born November 4 1825 In Clark county Ky and came to McLean county in 1880 He resided on a farm north of Carlock until about twelve years ago when he went to live with his daughter Mrs James AValters He was the father of two children Mrs Walters and a son who died eleven years ago He was a member of the Christian church of East Wnlte Oak uneral of Mrs Mary Zimmerman The funeral of Mrs Mary Gilder sleeve Zimmerman whd died riday after noon at her home five miles southwest Of Gridley was held on Sunday after noon at 1 at the church in Hudson conducted by Rev Mr Lord The service was very impressive and the au dience was one of the largest ever seen at a funeral in that place The musio was furnished by a chorus choir The in terment was in Hudson cemetery the following bearing the casket to the grave: Messrs II Cox Jarno Hinthorn James Keller II A Ensign Joseph all and Archibald Tho deceased was a member of the well known Gildersleeve family of Hud son and moved from there to the farm in the vicinity of Gridley a year ago Sns bad bn suffering for several years with a complication of ailments but was able to attend to her household duties until last Christmas when she was tqken very sick and had been in exceedingly poor health ever since The deceased was but 34 years of age and' had lived in the vicinity of Hudson all her life Mrs Zim merman was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Isaac Glidersleeve She was born in Hudson June 2 1875 was married to Harry Zimmerman April 4 1894 To this union was born three children Ethel May 14 years lorence Marie 12 years Gladys Jane 10 years Mr and Mrs Zimmerman and daughter Ethel united with Hudson church ebruary 190S She is survived by her husband three daughters 'her parents also two brothers Joseph and Charles A and two sisters Mrs Grace Hin shaw of Hudson and Mrs Eva Trimmer or Booneville Mo Sabina Sackett Is Dead Mr Sabina Sackett another of the pioneers of this county passed away in death riday night at 10:30 at his homo near Arrowsmith aged 80 years Alton he bad been in poor health for some time his final illness was only of two days duration the end being direct ly due to a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered Thursday The cedent was born In Delaware county March 22 1828 and his boy hood days were passed in that locality At the age of 23 he came with his parents to Illinois making the trip in a wagon and settling near Twin Grove this county On April 17 1855 MrJ9ackett was mar ried to Miss Martha' Hill and to the union tlx children were born lour of whom survive viz: William IL and Ef fie May both of Bloomington James and Seth of Arrowsmith In December 1865 Mr Sackett moved to a farm near Arrowsmith where he con tinued to live ever afterwards He was me of the first in that vicinity of that town to dear nnd improve his farm and ns far ns known hr was the only old set tler that was living on the farm Ibat he originally improved He Is also sur vived by brother Charles of Greenfield la and five Bistros Josephine Hayward Harah AVIlla winter far a of eight years and worked on 'the fanjn during his vacations He moved with his family to Illinois In January 1861 locating on a farm four miles southeast of Blooming ton Tho following spring he rented land And for four years farmed in that vicinity Jn 1865 he located on a farm of 110 aroes in West township which he had pur chased Here ho lived until 170 when he sold thia and bought 110 iterrs the large farm he owned for many years nnd he lived until he moved to Jeroy a few years Ago after he had accumulated a competency Ir Brock was married to Miss Rachel Alkin of Granger county Tenn on Janu ary 6 1854 There were four children horn to this fRmlly EmilyMay who died nt 2 years of age and Enoch Brock an at torney of Bloomington Mrs Sarah Ilnrrlnon of Normal and Mrs Rachel Null of Jroy whn together with th wife survive Mr Brock was a man of more than ordinary Intrlfigeneo nnd judg ment a model In his business methods and farmer He was a man uni versally rennrrted for hl death In Decatur of Capt Kanan an old time friend and army comrade and the last survivor except himself of the organizers of the first Grand Army post in the United States or the past few years there have been but three survivors of this organization Capt Rlebsame Capt Kanan and Mr I Coltrin The last named died some months ago and now with the death of Capt Kanan there is left the Blooming ton man Capt Riebsame as the Only survivor of the Post No 1 A Death Was Sudjtfen The death of Capt Kanan was sudden altho he had not been In good health for some years Three weeks ago hd sur vived what appeared to be an attack of heart failure but when the second ati tack came yesterday morning he expired beforfe the doctors arrived HI Life Story Kanan was born near Troy 71 years ago His ancestors Were Irish He came to Decatur early in the He was a clerk fa a store In his early years in Decatur He enlisted at Decatur in the orty first regiment Col I regiment April 8 1862 he was made captain of Comnahy A After the war he returned to Decatur and went into business becoming con nected with tffe Decatur urniture Com pany first as bookkeeper About 1880 he was made secretary treasurer nf that organization and held that position until it went out of business He was mayor from 1885 till ISbl and after that he was setate senator He was president of the Decatur Club one year being elected in 1905 Capt Kanan and Miss Jane McClellan of Decatur were married at Kansas Gftv November 12 1903 Tho widow survive him and is the only near relatvc Cant Kanan was always prominent In tha Republican
