NORMAN LEAR'S latest contribution to series TV arrives on the screen tonight and, it seems safe to predict, will stake a claim to the time period (Channel 2) for several seasons to come. It is called "One Day at a Time." It Is about a divorced mother trying to raise two teen-aged daughters In an apartment in Indianapolis, of all places. It Is very funny the pilot is, at any rate and very Learian. That is, it is very up-to-date very much In tune with the times. MOM IS a 34-year-old Avon Lady with a 26-year-old boyfriend, who is also the attorney who obtained her divorce.

Actually, as he explains, there isn't "more than a few months difference in age" between them, "because I'm almost 27, you're just 34 and women live all those years longer than men anyway. With any luck we could die together." Then there is swinging, married building superintendant who observes that Mom is "a woman of the divorced persuasion.
