Howe, 41, renowned artist, designer ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Victoria Margaret Howe, a nationally renowned artist and designer, died Saturday of cancer. She was Miss Howe's sculptures are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Muse-, um of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, the Guggenheim Museum and Museum of Modern Art in New York City, among other institutes. In 1987, Miss Howe became president and principal owner of Weatherend Estate Furniture in Rockland, Maine. The company manufactures outdoor furniture lauded in design and architectural circles.

Weatherend made legal history in November in a case closely watched by artists and designers. A federal judge in New York Ohio; three sons, Homer Clark Jr. of Kansas -City, James of Cleveland and Robert T. of Lexington, a sister, Marjorie Deutsch of Bratenahl, Ohio, and five grandchildren. Perlmutter Post-Gazette Slaff Writer Jeremy Cedric Treherne-Thomas, 64, who two years ago moved SMS Engineering Inc. into its $6 million headquarters on the North Side, died of cancer Monday at Sewickley Valley Hospital. Mr.

Thomas, president and chief operating officer of SMS Engineering, came to Pittsburgh from his native England in 1948 as a trainee at United Engineering and Foundry Co. In 1986, he established SMS Engineering, a unit of SMS AG of Dusseldorf, Germany, an affiliated company of the MAN group of Munich, Germany. It designs, produces and installs rolling mills, processing and finishing lines and extrusion presses for the aluminum and steel industries. firm of 250 employees, originally in offices at Station Square, quickly outgrew the space. At the time, Mr.

Thomas cited the city's trained work force, universities with engineering programs and the cultural atmosphere for wanting to expand his business in Pittsburgh. "Preserving these jobs is a major plus for the city," then-Mayor Sophie Masloff said of Mr. Thomas' decision. "This sends a very clear, positive signal to other companies that Pittsburgh is a great place for business." Mr. Thomas, who lived in Sewickley, returned to England in 1951 to join the Royal 'Artillery and served until 1953 in Nigeria.

He then joined United Engineering and Foundry in machinery sales and was prompted to various management positions, including vice president of sales in 1970. In 1972, he became vice president, international sales, for Wean United, and executive vice president in 1980. He was named president and chief executive officer of Mannesmann Demag Wean Co. in 1985. Mr.

Thomas also was chairman of the 3R Corporation of Pittsburgh. He is survived by his wife, Jane Parrish Fitzgerald Thomas; and two sisters, Anne Holman Chappell of Newmarket, England, and Fleur Devitt of London. Friends will be received after a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Episcopal Church, Shady Avenue, Shadyside. Homer C.

Wadsworth city official ih 1940s Homer Clark Wadsworth an official in the administration of former Pittsburgh Mayor Cornelius D. Scully, died yesterday of cancer at his home in Bratenahl, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. He was 81. Mr. Wadsworth, who was raised in North Point Breeze, was superintendent of the old city Bureau of Recreation, which was eventually merged and renamed the Department of Parks and Recreation.

He was also a former executive secretary of the city Planning Commission and a secretary to Scully in the 1940s. His public service career in Pittsburgh was interrupted during World War II, when he served as an ensign in the Navy for almost two years. He returned to Pittsburgh briefly before moving to New York City to serve as the assistant to the president of the New School for Social Research. He later moved to Kansas City, where he headed a private foundation for 25 years. In 1974, he moved to Cleveland, where he headed the Cleveland Foundation, one of the nation's first community foundations, which he headed for 10 years.

After retiring in 1984, he served as a consultant. John P. Robin, who first hired Mr. Wadsworth for public service in the Scully administration, said "he was a very brilliant, distinguished public servant who went on to have a great career in the world of foundations, where he was very well-known for his achievements." After graduating from Westinghouse High School in 1931, he received an undergraduate degree in 1935 from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of the basketball team. He later did graduate work in economics and sociology at the University of Chicago and further graduate study at the University of Minnesota.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Alice Crutchfield Wadsworth; four daughters, Alice of Kansas City, Ethel Mirviss of Dallas, Marjorie DeLeo of San Francisco and Harriet Wadsworth-Orlocki of Bratenhl, BOBROWSKI Dorothy Hamburg Bo-browski-74 of 1419 W. 42nd Erie, PA 16509 formerly of on April 12, 1994; daughter of the late Harry Martha James Hamburg.
