The ladies of the First Methodist church are to be congratulated on the successful termination of their two-days fair. The weather has favored their undertaking and the patronage h3 been liberal, Tho tabernaclo fur nishes the best accomodations in the city for a fair or festival, if only the large room can be kept warm. The Methodists as a denomination are cred ited with a good deal of firey zeal and this may account for the fact that the tab. has been very comfortable during their tenet of the building.

Yesterday, three handled persons re galed themselves with the thirty-five cent dinner and every one his money's worth. Last evening the tab eruacle was well filled the receipts at the door amounting to fifty dollars. The booths were the principal attractions anil were generously patronized Mr. French of Kimball music store tnnished some line piano music. The receipts of the fair will amount to more than four hundred dollars.

Miss Annie Prather has returned to this city after a visit of six 'weeks to relatives in Virginia. Kendriek liart left town to go on a that linni we heard nothing of him till to-day, when a letter came from a prominent gentleman at Belleville, 111, stating that Mr. Kendriek was lecturing there and creating quite an excitement. The letter was one of inquiry asking whether Mr. Kendrickwho represented himself as an ordained Elder of Stapp's Chapel, in fact "a responsible person. The letter said that papers had been received in Belleville that contained reflections on Mr.

Kendrick's character and on this account suspicion was entertained concerning him. The answer which was sent to the above letter was not of the most flattering character, and Mr. Kendriek will doubtless find that his days of prosperity are ended in Illinois. II VKItIEI. By Rev.

The large amount of water used was taken in oil tank cars to Bement and Cerro Gordo where the water supply is completely exhausted.

Three or four water trains daily were run be tween those towns and Decatur. Their is no prospect of a break in the coal famine for some time yet. Tho few car loads that occasionally reach this city are seized upon as soon as they arrive. The mine-managers over the state have orders for a long time ahead and the price is sure to go up. If the miners should strike as there is a possibility of their doing, it would be impossible to obtain soft coal at any price.
