The Shasta Courier reviewed the history of that paper in the issue of last week.

The Courier has just begun a new volume and the nineteenth year of its publication. It is a good paper and has our best wishes for its Journal. State Legislature was kicked out of existence by constitutional limitation on the evening of the 4th iust. shall not undertake to write the epitaph of the aforesaid body unless the Central Pacific railroad company will pay for the same at regular advertising rates. The decree of the Senatorial Doge has gone forth and the head ol another victim must fall For having dared to express an opinion in regard to the fitness or unfitness of certain aspirants for Government positions in this State endeavoring to secure the appointment of a few personal friends to minor official positions, and tor the great crime of refusing to bow in humble submission to the dictation of Cornelius Colo, George C. Gorham must be torn fiom his position as Secretary of the United States Senate. No fault is found with the manner in which his official duties have been discharged, but then he has encroached upon the peculiar prerogatives of a member of the Senate body, which it now appears, is leagued together for mutual protection in the matter of controlling and dispensing Government spoils and patronage. We understand that when Gorham appeared before the Investigating Committee he was informed that if he would apologize to Colo, and lefrain from uncomplimentary allusions to the Senator in future, he could retain the Secretaryship. To this it is alleged, Gorham replied Senators, I would be glad to retain the honorable position, but I cannot purchase it at the expense of rny independence and This was enough, and the decree of removal was forthwith entered upon the records of King caucus.

Cole is uow a victorious petty dictator, and it is to be hoped that the anxiety of thosi honorable Senators who look with extreme jealousy and displeasure upon any example calculated to lead to tho taking away of even tho smallest grain of their usurped powers, is allayed for the present. Time sets all things even. Senators cannot perpetuate their official terms by cacus res'dutious. A New House. few weeks since wc spoke of ajuew house building by Mr.

Conger, from Shasta. We have to day visited the establishment, and now reiterate our assertion It is in the main 2 by 2(i feet, the walls 2d feet, has 174 feet of porch, with a well upon the north west end, has four rooms upon the lower story, four rooms in the upper, a large attic room, and to every room there is a wardrobe and closet. It will have parlors below and above, dining room and most convenient sleeping rooms. The whole building will be hard finished. The kitchen is lb by feet, with a good cellar underneath.

We have seen no house in our town embracing more conveniences. The workmanship is of the first order, being botli elegant and substantial, and reflects much credit upon the contractors, Messrs. Briggs and Bradley. Outside, the mansion is imposing; inside it will bo neat, commodious ami coufortable. We wish Shasta would send us more as enterprising citizens us Mr.

Mean Business William Neely Johnson, a capable man of pure character, was removed from a revenue position by Grant, who did not know that lie was blind, the act was justly condemned as one of peculiar cruelty, by papers of both parties in the Statin Since then Mr.

Johnson has been made State. Librarian, a posisiou which he can fill acceptably with the aid of an excellent deputy and devoted wife. Yet men of his own partyone of them in high position, arc now working to effect his removal, merely to make a place for an importunate applicant. The Record says that on Wedcnsday, while Mr. Johnson was circulating a petition in tho Legislature for the retention of her husband, the Attorney-General of the State was on the floor lobbying against her in behalf of his own F.

Bulletin. Patriarchal Family. A gentleman in the course of his travels in (he West, one day emerged from the neck of a piece of timber, and suddenly descried a country tavern upon the porch of which sat one of the oldest white haired men he had ever seen, crying like a child. In answer to an inquiry as to what was the cause of his trouble he sobbed out that his had just licked Upon entering the bar-room the traveller saw another and much older man behind the bar, whom he addressed: seem to have some trouble here, stranger. 'lhe imputation a large number of! Angora or Cashmere goats into this port has caused considerable inquiry with regard to this interesting animal, which we will endeavor satisfy at an early day. There 1 seems to be considerable speculation in regard to this breed of goats just at this time, in all parts of the country, and it is thought by many that there is danger ot an undue excitement in this direction. We do not entertain any fear on that account; but at the same time would counsel sober careful caution.

Experiments on this coast have already proven two the climate of California is well fitted for the raising of tliis goat, as it does as well or better here than on its native hills, near the lilaek sea and that it is most admirably adapted for improving 'our common breeds, in regard to botli fleece and flesh. The animal is beautiful to look upon, and although quite as mischievious, is almost entirely free from tiie strong odor so peculiarly offensive in the common goat. Its flesh is also said to be very superior for the tabic. Their fleeces are long, exceedingly fine, soft and i silky They take color very easily and perfectly. The demand for them in this country is now chiefly for fancy work, fringes, tassels, etc.

The mode of treatment is as follows When the preceding fever is at its bight, and before tiie eruption appears, the chest is rubbed with croton oil and tartaric ointment. Blooded Fowls. the Los Angeles News we extract the following To obtain a breed of hens which shall combine good laying 'qualities with large size and weight, tender flesh aud quiet habits, is considered a desideratum among farmers. Yesterday we noticed at the depot a lot ot chickens which would seem to fill ail these conditions.

They were Brahmapootas, and were imported by Jasper Babcock, who is an enthusiastic lien fancier. Tiie fowls pullets and three cocks imported from a New house, where especial attention is paid to keeping the breeds perfectly pure. The cocks are magnificent specimens one of them, now hut five months old, standing fully two feet high. They are light colored, with Black feathers sprinkled among the white around the neck, and with a short tail of changable green. At eighteen months old, Babcock informs us the cock will weigh about sixteen pounds, and the hens twelve or thirteen pounds.

These are the most magnificant spec'mens of the kind we have seen. The liens are said to be not only unrivaled for their laying qualities and careful moulting, but their flesh is delicate and unlike that of most fowls of their size. Four pullets and one cock cost, landed in Han Francisco, SHOO in coin. These chickens are to be carefully kept in his inclosure by themselves that the blood may lie retained untainted.
