The Filipino members of the Joint commission at Manila have formally demanded the release of the launches seized by the Americana and also that they be permitted to fly itch, water, or letters blur and run together when reading, you cannot conceive of the great relief a pair of properly fitted glasses will give you.

Why spend hundreds of dollars for medicines when all yon need is a pair of correctly fitted glasses Fitting glasses is a Hcience one can only become proficient in, by years of study, closo application and constant practice. My work in Danville is a clear record of successful fitting of glasses. Ask any of the hundreds of people I have fitted. They will tell you of the success of ruy work. I charge nothing for testing your eyes, and will furnish good glasses at the lowest prices.

If, after a fair trial, my glasses don't prove satisfactory, bring them back and get yonr money. I don't want your money if the glasses fail to benefit you and would rather return it than have a dissatisfied customer. An employe of Mr. Edward Beyer, Valley township, drove into town with a horse and buggy. Having business at the grocery store of J. F. Tooley he tied his horse there and went inside.

Some time Inter the animal succeeded in stripping his bridle and once free dashed down the street at a frightful rate. The by-standers held their breath as they saw the buggy bounding along the crowded street escaping only bv a hairs-breadth collisions with other vehic on either side. At Frazier's hotel the horse shot up Spruce street. A short distance above, the buggy came in contact with a JOHN F. TOOLEY'S, Double Store, 316 AND 318 MILL ST.

General Otis is reported as being willing to grant these concessions, but Admiral Dewey has refused, not wishing to put himself In a position obliging him to employ searchlights in order to discover the movements of the Filipinos, to prevent the smuggling of arms or avert a possible torpedo attack. The use of the Filipino flag is permitted on shore, several flags flying from native houses in Manila. dozen natives have been arrested, having been discovered secretly manufacturing bolas in Manila. The military police almost daily find small quantities of bolas, rifles or ammunition, all of which are seized. The city is thoroughly patrolled, especially at night, and native gatherings are always under the surveillance of the police.

Filipinos Arrested. The Filipino telegraph office in Manila connecting with all parts of the Island of Luzon has been closed by the Americans and the operators arrested upon the discovery that the wires were being used for the transmission of General Otis' secret orders and dispatches to the Filipino government at Malolos. How these were obtained is a mystery. Two guns of the Utah artillery have been placed In position- on Santander hill, east of the city, overlooking the waterworks. There is no evidence that Filipinos intend to begin hostilities, but it is practically certain that they will resist if the Americans force matters.

The radical independence element now dominates the government at Malolos. Since the killing of the Filipino officer, Belmonte, by an American guard the American officers have not ventured outside of Manila. Foreigners are not permitted to travel in the interior without passes signed by Aguinaldo. The horse was by this time Irantic and he struggled and plunged until lie wrested the buggy, badly broken, from the tree.

Dragging the wrecked vehicle after him he continued his flight up the street, scattering pieces right and left until he had nothing left but the harness, which were also badly used up. He ran up to Ash street, thence to Bloom street and Mill, when he started for Valley township. He was caught by the driver near the Steam Grist Mill. A Valuable Dog. Mr.

John Springer, who occupies the Boyd farm at Boyd's Station, came nesr losing an entire flock of chickens one day this week under very peculiar circumstances. A handsome full blooded bird dog made his appearance upon the premises and plunging into the midst of a flock of Plymouth Rocks began slaughtering the valuable fowls right and left. Before he could be arrested in his bloodthirsty work he had killed no less than thirty-eight. It was fortunate for the brute that he escaped with his life. Upon leaving the farm he was traced to the premises of a man named Martz at Reeds Station, where it was learned that the dog was being kept for another party who resides at Mt.

Carmel. Mr. Martz assured Mr. Springer that the chjckens killed would be paid for by the owner of the dog. The frolicsome brute, it seems, was out for exercise and the little run of some six miles across to Boyd's Station was something that he was quite accustomed to.

Whether chicken-killing on such an extensive scale enters into the daily amusement of this valuable dog has not been ascertained. Taken to Troy. The remains of the late S. B. John Lien 11 TO, CLOSE OUT OUR Lee of Richmond, who were the guests of Rear Admiral Dewey on his flagship, the Olympia, for a week in the early part of December, are at the Auditorium annex. Mr. and Mrs. Lee said it was the opinion of the American officers and other intelligent people at Manila that when the natives come to know the Americans better the present prejudice will disappear, and the Filipinos will become earnest supporters of American rule. They add that It is idle to talk of the inhabitants of the Philippines being able to maintain a government of their own; that they are exceedingly ignorant and would be the tools of selfish and unscrupulous leaders, who uld soon plunge the islands into a state of Ili'S!
