6A SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2022 BURLINGTON FREE PRESS Carroll McClure Lewin of St. Louis Park, Minn. passed away Oct. 20, 2022. She was 79.

Carroll was born in St. Paul, Minn. on Thanks- giving Day, Nov. 26, 1942. Her father, John Carroll, a naval ensign, was killed before her birth in a bomber crash in Alaska.

Her mother, Helen Fisch- er Carroll, went on to meet and marry Ben McClure, a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, in August 1943. Carroll was adopted and raised by Ben. After the war, Helen and Ben settled their family in New York City. Carroll attended the Lenox School and took ballet lessons at the School of American Ballet, the associate school of the New York City Ballet.

Carroll danced in one of the early produc- tions of George She attended Oberlin College in Ohio, graduating in 1965. Carroll received her PhD in anthropology at Brandeis University in 1971. While at Brandeis, she met her first husband, Stephen Pastner. They conducted fieldwork together in Baluchistan, and later joined the anthropology department at UVM. Described by her colleagues as Car- roll contributed broadly to academic life at the university.

She helped establish the studies program and served on the advisory boards of the Fleming Museum and the Center for Holocaust Studies. Carroll taught at UVM for 30 years, retiring as an associate professor in 2001. Carroll is survived by daughters Deb Pastner and Becky Pastner (Steven C. Smith); grandchildren Elsie and Micah Smith; sister Susan Marchand (Henri Marchand); husband Shallom Lewin; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Robert David Eaton ORLANDO, FL Constance (Connie) Alma (Ni- quette) Loso, 77, of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully in the late evening hours of Tuesday, Sep- tember 20, 2022 after battling ongoing health issues. Connie leaves behind her sonChristopher Loso and his wife Rebecca Stone of Baltimore, MD; daughter Jacqueline LosoHongladarom and her husband Bob of Fulton, MD and their child (grandchild) Benja- min; sister Carol Izzo and her husband Louis Izzo of Williston, VT; and sister-in-law Sharon Niquette of Jeffersonville, VT; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

She was predeceased by her brother Richard Niquette of Burlington, VT in 2017. Connie was born on February 23, 1945 at Fanny Allen Hospital to parents Theodore and Gertrude (Marcotte) Niquette of Winooski who predeceased her. She attended St. Francis Xavier School through the 8th grade. She then attended Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, VT, graduating in 1962.

Connie worked for her parents during high the proprietors of the former landmark restaurant Ted Fine Food onMain Street in Winooski. She also worked in the mail room and as a switchboard operator at St. College during high school. She loved working there and befriended many college students from around the world. After high school, Connie studied to be a nurse.

She graduated from Fanny AllenMemorial School of Practical Nursing in 1964. She was an accomplished pediatric nurse over the years, working in hospitals in and Massachusetts. Connie was a very generous woman, helping many of her neighbors and friends while living in Orlando. She baked her legendary pumpkin, banana and zucchini breads for family, friends and neighbors. She also helped many people in need, giving money and gifts to help support them.

In her most recent home in Orlando, she was an avid bingo player and enjoyed shopping and socializing with her friends living at Kinneret Senior Living. Her gener- osity, kindness and compassionate nature will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. In lieu of donations can bemade in honor of Constance Loso to the Kinneret Council on Aging (https://kinneretliving.org/donate/) and to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org). Constance (Connie) Alma (Niquette) Loso WILLISTON Gerard Malavenda, 65, tragical- ly passed away on Octo- ber 15, 2022.

An accom- plished and seasoned bicyclist, Gerry had set out on a gloriousVermont day for a ride that would unfortunately be his last. Gerry had many lifelong friendships, stemming from high school, college and his career. Those who knew him well would tell you that you could always count onGerry to be irreverent! A devout Catholic, Gerry found peace in attending Mass. Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Russell and CatherineMalavenda, and his brother, Russell Malavenda, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his many friends, notably Beth, with whom he spoke daily.

Survivors includeMaureen andHarry Locker of Williston, Jack Locker of Burlington and many cousins and extended family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish in Essex Junction at 11:00 on Tuesday October 25, 2022.
