whispered prayers echoed in Judy west Omaha home this week as Ira the officers of Aglow ellowship in Omaha and Lincoln gath ered for prayer Of prime concern was a series of pre Day meetings that con clude with a brunch this morning at Best Western Regency West in Omaha It is the hope of Mrs Wall and the other four officers that they will rejuve nate the fellowship in two largest cities ask that version of William Nicholson's play about the unlikely romance and marriage be tween Oxford University professor au thor CS Lewis and American divorcee JoyDavidman This quiet personal little play is per fect for the small onda McGuire The ater area of the Playhouse and it benefits from solid performances in the principal Shadowlands What: Drama When: 8 pm Thursdays through Saturdays 2 pm and 6:30 pm Sundays through June 25 Where: Omaha Community Playhouse onda McGuire Theater 691 5 Cass St 9 Information: 553 0800 roles Creighton University drama professor Bill Hutson as Lewis and Sara lores as Joy Davidman The acting styles of these two mesh despite differences Hutson provided a warm and convincing reading before a preview audience of 1 35 Thursday night creating a somewhat Americanized Lewis who was affable caring and sin cere Ms lores was completely in charac ter utterly believable as the Jewish divorcee stricken with cancer who fell in love with perhaps the most widely known Christian apologist in the world at the time The part of Joy is beautifully written and hers are the best lines Her quirky spunky New York personality enlivened by intellect is a dramatic masterpiece Ms lores brings deep feeling and authenticity to the part getting the most out of her often witty and surprising lines Lewis was a popular lecturer and one of his standard lectures was on human pain and love But Lewis who lived an insulated academic life with his brother Warnie knew little of either pain or love until he was surprised by Joy Davidman who sent him fan letters full of incisive remarks and personal observations about him Early in her friendship with Lewis Ms Davidman was divorced by her philan dering husband and moved to England with her school age son Douglas Steve set is presents certain to nour into Rome will be one from the Archdiocese of Omaha: a spiritual bouquet A spiritual bouquet is a collection of promises to perform certain good works or say specific prayers that will bless the pope said the Rev Michael Gutgsell who is collecting them for Archbishop Llden Curtiss TTie promises have come from individuals parishes religious communities other archdiocese groups even one or two businesses St Wenceslaus Church in Verdigre and St William its mission church in Niobrara sent six typed single spaced pages of promises with the signatures of almost everyone in both churches Gutg sell said and the fourth grade class at All Saints Catholic School at 1335 10th St contributed 30 letters Gutgsell said one community wide event will mark the birthday a Mass and
