Both senate and house hope to get out of Washington from March 22 until April 2. Whether they do or not depends on the progress of legislation now and March 22. Before an Easter recess, house leaders would like to get rid of bills for emergency food aid for India, defense housing, rent control and reorganization. May Get UMT The house may also be called upon to act on a bill revising and extending the draft act and setting up authority for eventual Universal Military Training and Service.

The senate passed such a bill Friday. The house armed servces committee has not yet approved its version but may do so in a few days. Little difficulty is expected get ting thtough both houses a resoltP tion extending the federal rent control program for 90 days beyond March 31. But the trouble hangs over the rest of the pre-Easter program. House Is Hoping The senate may spend the next two weeks debating whether the president has authority to send American troops to Europe withv out a declaration of war or expresP approval by congress.

House leaders secretly hope this controversial matter won't be tossed in to their laps. If the senate must take a stand on the issue, they hope, it will be in the form of a simple senate resolution not requiring house action.
