the Tulsa football coach gasped as if he had seen a ghost A lovely ghost Jersev No 90 is to Carillot what No 9 (Ted Williams) is to Boston Red Sox' owner Tom Yawkey The ultimate At Michigan State where Carillot was defensive coach No 90 was worn by George Webster the Spartans' nonpareil linebacker and al ready a professional superstar with the Houston Oilers Carillot put Webster on a pedestal greatest player I ever coached and one of the greatest I've ever Carillot says of the tall cat quick Webster Michigan State retired No 90 after senior season in 1966 Carillot was resigned to never seeing No 90 again except in a Hall of ame showcase or in a Houston Oiler game The unexpected sight of Blanchard wearing No 90 startled Carillot But if any Tulsa player should wear No 90 Blanchard quali fies The lanky redshirt sophomore not only plays Webster's position but also has the same intellectual and attitude qualities as Webster And while there may never be another Webster anywhere Blanchard has indicated he will make a name for himself Something to Build Around He is a key figure in hope for the future He is one of the players around whom Tulsa will build In liis college debut last week at Colorado Blanchard was best performer He threw the key block on Davis Moss 76 yard punt return and also made numerous other winning As the monster linebacker in 4 4 3 defense Blanchard was pitted against a big experienced sharp blocking Colorado offensive line The Buffs repeatedly blocked other TU linebackers on their backs But Blanchard consistently stayed on his feet and fought
