B-6 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Wednesday, September 29, 1993 THE REGION Inmate guilty of lolling another Drawings of money: counterfeit or art? WASHINGTON (AP) J.S.G. Boggs' drawings of money are so good the Secret. Service is investigating him. 'The artist asked a federal court yesterday to stop the probe, contending he just wants to practice his craft. "I have something that I want to communicate, and I'm not too articulate verbally, Boggs told U.S.

District Judge Royce Lam-berth in defense of his intricate drawings of $1, $10 and $100 bills. Boggs, of Pittsburgh's South Side, sued the government Sept. 3, claiming a Secret Service's investigation of his work violates his artistic freedom. The Secret Service contends Boggs' art violates counterfeiting laws. Lamberth won't rule on Boggs' request to stop the investigation until after more briefs are filed next week.

Heights, in the strangulation death of Seth Floyd, 25, formerly of Los Angeles. A second inmate, Melvin Goodwine, 27, of Sandusky Street, North Side, also had been charged in Floyd's death. The jury acquitted Goodwine of homicide charges but convicted him of a lesser charge of conspiracy. Floyd's death on March 9 in the Allegheny County Jail was initially called a suicide, but his mother, Leatrice Floyd of Los Angeles, refused to accept that. Floyd who weighed 300 pounds, was found hanging off his bunk with shoelaces and a cord around his neck.

His mother requested a second autopsy, performed by Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, who ley Clark told the jury that two inmates saw the killing, even though they didn't realize it. Marvin Harper and Micah David Goodman testified that they saw Goodwine and Burton scuffling with Floyd in his cell shortly before Floyd was found dead. Another inmate, Warren Parrott, said he heard Burton telling someone on the telephone that "they were going to get together and fix" an inmate from California.

The jurors got a closer-than-anticipat-ed look at the criminal justice system last week when McDaniel led them on a brief tour of the jail. They viewed the cell in which Floyd's body was found. Staff writer Jon Schmitz contributed to this report. OBITUARIES Road, Penn Hills. Services will be at noon Friday at the Holy Spirit Byzantine Church, 4815 Fifth Oakland.
