Pitt Names I it 'in' i Female Prof Arts Dean A leading female scholar In the field of nuclear physics has been named associate dean of the University of Pittsburgh's Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). She Is Dr. Elizabeth Urey a a who will resign from her position as a research associate in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she has been a major contributor to the theory of nuclear shell structures.

The appointment will become effective Jan. 15, Dr. Jerome L. Rosenberg, dean of FAS, announced. She replaces Dr.

Richard H. McCoy, who will retire at the end of the current academic year. Besides her roll as an administrator, she also will serve as a professor of physics in Pitt's Department of Physics where she moved from an instructor in 1955 to full professor in 1968. She resigned from Pitt men to accept the research job at MIT. She received her bachelor's degree from Swarthmore and her Ph.D.
