Search Made But No Trace Was Found By Searchers A local resident told a story last week in which he said a friend of his from Lake county while going along the highway struck a doe, the impact breaking one of the forelegs of the deer. There was no weapon in the automobile with which to shoot the wounded animal, nor did the occupants of the car have a knife with which to, mercifully, cut the throat of the injured doe. Placed In Trunk. Dazed by the shock of the encounter, the doe was lifted into a trunk at the rear of the automobile, the cover pulled down and the car hurried to Calistoga where the deer was to have been turned over to Chief of Police Ed used Ligat for for kililng, charitable the distri- meat bution in accordance with a game law. Doe Disappeared.

When the motor vehicle wheeled into the main thoroughfare it was found that in the several miles of travel, the deer had recovered, had kicked off the top of the trunk and had vanished. Could Not Be Found. Its escape had not been heard by the passengers. The three men returned up the mountain searching for the injured doe but 110 trace of it was found. Mr.

The birds were fed at the doorstep of a rancher and would not fly at approach. A Ukiah man broke through a fence on the ranch and came up to the band and killed five.
