Price flood victim in North Hills The Rev. John F. Price, 50, pastor of St. Joseph Church in O'Hara and a former pastor in Peru, drowned Friday during the flash flood in the North Hills as he was driving on Saxonburg Boulevard. Father Price, of 330 Dorseyville Road, O'Hara, served as pastor of St.

Joseph Church since 1984. "He was an enthusiastic, creative, thoughtful, gentle and caring person who loved his priesthood and especially the people he served," said Bishop Anthony Bevilacqua of the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese. "They in turn loved him. His devotion and love will be a lasting legacy which will continue to reap many benefits in our diocese for years to come." A 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Father Price graduated from St. Vincent College in Latrobe and attended St.

Mary Seminary in Baltimore, for four years. His first assignment was from 1961 to 1964 at St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg. Father Price then served at St. Philip Church in Craf-ton from 1964 to 1966.

He left for Chimbote, Peru, where he was pastor of the Virgin at the Door Parish for 11 years. Father Price survived the 1970 earthquake in Chimbote that claimed the lives of 68,000 Peruvians. He was instrumental in getting aid to survivors. He returned to Pittsburgh in 1977 to become the director of the Family Life of the Pittsburgh Diocese, while he was in residence at Madonna del Castello Church in Swissvale. In 1983, Father Price returned to Peru for one year to the Talara Peruvian Mountains region which was devastated by floods.

While there, he started a school for religious educators, teaching Post Vatican II theology. He then returned to Pittsburgh in 1984 and became pastor of St. Joseph Church in O'Hara. "This is a time of great sorrow and pain for the diocese Bishop Bevilacqua said. "Our consolation comes from the faith which assures us that Father Price is one with God.

He truly was a gift from God to our diocese and to the entire church as is evidenced by his dedication to strengthening family life in our diocese and by the 12 years he spent in the missions." Survivors include his mother, Catherine Farren Price of Swiss-vale; two brothers, Gerald E. of Penn Hills and James W. of Rochester, N.Y.; and a sister, Mary Price of the Sisters of Charity, Seton Hill College, Greensburg. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

tween houses at 976 and 974 Johnston Ave. A trail of blood led to a basement door at 976 Johnston, the residence of Ronald Wheeler, where police said the fight occurred. Officers said the victim had been at a party earlier at the home of Brian Caterino, 18, of 970 Johnston, and had left for the Wheeler home with some friends to play pool for money. Buttermore was stabbed when he went to the defense of his girlfriend after he objected to a remark made by one of the youths, police said. He staggered outside and collapsed.

Officers interviewed several of the witnesses yesterday, including Ronald Wheeler and his brother, Jason. Probe clears councihnen An investigation of the campaign expenditures of two City Council members showed they have done nothing criminally liable, according to District Attorney Robert Colville. But if the two cannot fully document their campaign expenditures, they'll have to cover the difference from their own pockets, Colville said.

James O'Malley has about $1,200 and Eugene "Jeep" DePasquale about $600 in undocumented campaign expenditures, Colville said. DePasquale has said much of the money was used for restaurant and bar tabs or to pay campaign workers. O'Malley paid himself about $6,300 from his campaign fund last year to cover campaign-related expenses. He did not run for office this year. Colville will submit his report to the Elections Bureau by tomorrow.

Police said Buttermore had been stabbed several times in the chest and that his hands had been slashed an indication that he had attempted to defend himself from his assailant. Police would not name the juvenile named in the murder warrant. Police found Buttermore lyung on the ground be Mosco appeals sentence Former Banksville bartender Jeffrey I.

Mosco has asked a federal judge to reduce his four-year prison sentence for selling cocaine to major league baseball players.
