Yet, the Rhine steamer trip which is a tourist attraction for Germans and other Europeans every bit as much as it is for Americans appeared to be fully enjoyed by all. BUT IF they sometimes felt, as one of the group put after a tour of Westminster Abbey, "as though we were marching through Geor-1 gia," not a few expressed the opinion that they had gotten the bargain of their lives. For one who said that she hud ftmnd Venice a nice place to visit "but I wouldn't want to live there," there was another whose sampling of Europe led her to exactly the opposite conclusion.

If they found Amsterdam clean "as they ex pected" they also found most other countries to also be about as they expected them to be. For most Germany also nice and clean "with little or nothing to remind them of the Hitler years" was the favorite country. But it was equally obvious that although they were willing to go on the same "rat runs," the members of group were equally capable of forming their own opinions, to bring home their own personal memories. In any event "they were not. the same people as before," Trout concluded.

Overmyer which operates storage facilities through, out the country. Even the parts for the transmitter building, a prefabricated structure, are at the site, the official told me. "At one point I was ready to completely staff the station within three weeks Including the necessary two-weeks notice," Greer said. He still hopes to get on the air before Christmas. IN THE travel business, Robert Trout explained at the beginning of Tuesday night's "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium," there are five seasons.

"The fifth season is, the tourist season." Then for the next hour he and a CBS camera crew took the viewers along with 35 of their fellow Americans on a 21-day, 11-country first class bus tour of Europe. The selected tour is called, in the trade Caravan 1)12 or, less formally, "The Rat Run." About a qunrter million Americans take these package tours each year this one was filmed a summer ago and if they end up seeing a lot more of each other than they do of the Europeans, at least "They've done Europe." Producer J. C. Sheers and commentator Trout obviously had their tongues firmly in cheek, but It was, nonetheless, a sympathetic and on the whole quite warm look at the way 35 people from a wide variety of backgrounds, of ages from late teens to well into the retirement years, alone and in family groups, spent 21-days far away from home.
