PITTSBURGH rOST-CAZETTEt SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1974- Those Bengals: Cats of a Different Color For as long and distressing as the Bengals' injury list was five weeks ago, it is even longer and more distressing now with the addition of center Bob defensive backs Le-mar Tarrish, Ken Sawyer and Rernard Jackson, and, most significantly, quarterback Ken Anderson. It was' Anderson's 22-for-24 passing show that led most directly lo the Bengals' earlier victory in Cincinnati. That win pulled Cincy to within a half-game of Pittsburgh, but the American Conference Central Division race ended abruptly last Sunday when the 9-3-1 Steelers decked New England and the 7 6 Bengals dropped a last-seeond decision to Detroit. Injuries have also dictated two other major changes.

THE FIRST IS IN Ihe offensive line where Howard Fest has taken over for Johnson at center while former play-calling i 1 tS' messengers John Shinners and Pal Matson now both start at guard. Instead of shuttling guards, Brown now shuttles wide receivers, using flankers Chip Myers and Charlie Joiner. The second is in the defensive line where White's Injury has prompted Brown to move Ron Carpenler from right tackle to right end while inserting rookie Bill Kollar at Carpenler's normal station. While change Is In vogue for the Bengals, It is the exception rather than the rule for the Steelers at the moment. "We don't intend to change anything," said Sleeler Head Coach Chuck Noll yesterday.

"I'm not going in with the idea of using all my players or using particular players for a certain time. "I THINK THE WORST thing we can do is make changes for the sake of making changes. You can't afford to lose your rhythm heading into the playoffs. So, we've tried to concentrate on Cincinnati this week even though the fans have probably concentrated more on the Buffalo game next week. "We want to beat Cincinnati.

We want to beat every team we play, for that matter," Noll continued. Not so incidentally, no Steeler team prior to 1972 had ever accomplished the feat. In his last two starts Gary Inness has been called unon to make the spectacular save again and again against the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. It required 50 stitches to sew up Wilkins' mouth following Thursday night's 3-3 tie with Montreal, the result of an ill-timed stab at a Canadien shot.

The puck caught Wilkins full on the mouth, dropping him like a sack of potatoes. Only because he's who he is, the Pens are hopeful Wilkins will be in the lineup against the Black Hawks. "Barry is tough, that's the kind of player he is," Penguin Coach Marc Boileau said yesterday. "But he has lo be sore, some kind of sore.
