Contracts extending over a long period have been entered into between the Western Maryland Railroad Company and the Philadelphia and Reading and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Companies for full interchanges of business over all the various connections; also for the use of the eight miles of th-i Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburg Railroad between Bowmansdale and HarriBburg, under which the Western Maryland will run its own trains to and from Harrisburg and have full use of all the facilities of the Reading in that city. But to Baltimore, says the Sun of that city, the most important movement of all is the tidewater extension, which will be likely before long to assume definite shape. This branch will deflect from the man line of the Western Maryland at Arlington, just about the northern boundary of the city, thence to Jones's Falls, through Woodberry, through the heart of the city to the docks and on to Canton and Sparrow's Point. The route, of enormous value, is owned by the city and was granted to the Western Maryland because of the city's ownership in the road.

The cost of this extension is estimated at less than $1,500,000, the Interest upon which at five per cent, is $75,000 a year. The construction of this line will enable the Western Maryland to dispense with the use or the Baltimore and Potomac tunnel, for which it paid last year some $114,000. This saving would pay the annual interest on the cost of constructing the tidewater iine and provide a large and annually increasing sinking fund, which will finally give to the city a magnificent property worth many millions of dollars, and all free from near Mount Hecla, Iceland, another fourteen Sonth-East Corner laia and R. He left the ring unhurt. His sturdy opponent was badly punished and bled profusely. The fight was for a purse of $3.5.000, offered by the Olympic Club, and $10,000 a side. It may well be questioned if two such giants ever faced each other in the prize ring. It was the event of a lifetime for either man.

Sullivan in win-Ding would accomplish the crowning triumph of bis life and retire from the ring forever with mch a record as no prize fighter had ever won. Corbett, if successful, would jump at once to the position of heavy weight champion of the world and enjoy the very pronounced distinction of being the only man who had ever defeated Suilivan.
