Gulf Oil's first quarter net, incidentally, was far greater than that of Gulf's capital expenditures may total as much as $800 million In 1964, so that it may be predicted that the oil 1 company's assets will bulk 'larger than those of USSteel before too long. The gathering at the Gulf meeting was estimated at 900 which would compare with 650 a year ago.

The Gulf management told the assemblage there would be no gift 6f a package of oil spt cialties at the meeting in 1965 which will be a test of whether stockholders come to the meeting to learn of the progress of the company or to obtain a fiift Brockett pointed out that right now Gulf's approved capital and exploratory expenditures for 1964 are more than $700 million, which is in excess of the 1963 record. As an example of "the kind of opportunity that interests Gulf management," Brockett cited the financial assistance the company has given to Holiday Inns. This will give Gulf a large number of choice service station cites and expand, the use of Gulf credit cards. Record Year Is Seen "All, our operations are' at record volume levels and, with cost control continuing to yield worth-while the prospects are bright for a record year," Brockett said. W.

W. Adams, senior vice president, amplified this by adding the factor of a broader earnings base. He said net Income for the first three months of 1964 was a record $104,848,000, equal to $1.01 per share, compared with $97,762,000, or 94 cents per share, In the-corresponding i quarter of 1963. The previous record quarter was $103,831,000 in the final three months of 1962. In the area of oil production, Gulf said production and reesrves continue to rise against the trend of the industry in the United States.

There have been marked successes in Nigeria and Colombia. In. Nigeria, a third productive well has been completed, and the company anticipates moving out crude by the latter part of this year at the rate of 25,000 barrels per day. Directors, in session after the meeting, declared the regular quarterly dividend of 40 cents per share. At the shareholders' meeting, questions were asked about an increase.

Whiteford said the dividend question would.be considered in the light of large capital expenditures and earnings. North Boroughs Ass'n To Vote on Merger The North Borough Building and Loan Association will hold a special meeting of members Monday, May 11, at 9 p. m. at the Association headquarters, Municipal Building, Emsworth, to vote on a proposed merger with Con-cord-LiBbrty Savings Loan Association. North Boroughs, incorporated in 1904, had assets of $513,820 according to the financial statement of December 31, 1963.

April 28 (AP) Cancellation of the Houston Symphony Orchestra's 1964-65 season was indicated today as the symphony society and a musicians' committee deadlocked over a wage contract.

A staterccrii last night after an "emprgency" meeting of the society's executive committee said: The Houston Symphony Society is confronted by sad indeed a tragic day when at the summit of its 50 years of great achievement it faces cessation of its activities because of demands of its musicians which, although understandable, are impossible of satisfaction." The society is seeking to raise $350,000 to balance its-1964-65 budget of $800,000. The musicians made known their demands on the symphony management April 16.
