UNION FOLKS AT OHOSEN PICNIC FOR SERVICE MAN •Union •— Mr. Thompson, Mr-. - and and MfBr Mrs. Frank Robert Leason and two daughters, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bacon drove to the Eugene Hofius home near Ottoacn Sunday for a picnic dinner honoring Corporal and Mrs. Knutc Oppedahl who are here on a visit from Vancouver, Wash. They will leave Friday oh ' their return trip. Mrs. Oppedahl will be remembered tn Union as Mary Jane Hofius. Other guests were Mr. Oppedahl's relatives, Mrs. Oppedahl's two grandmothers, Mrs. Cora Bacon of Algona and Mrs. Maine Hofius, of Otlmore City. Uncles and aunts were guests too, Mr. and Mrs. I. -W. Nelson of Lone Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Elston of Gllmore City and her sister, Mrs. Alf 'Lee and husband and baby of Ottosen and Mr. and Mrs. Newton Mack and rill, Iowa. two daughters of Ter- Mrs. James Dearchs, mother of Mrs. Frank Hofius, is recovering from a kidney ailment. She had a sudden atack about two weeks ago. Mrs. Floyd Bode and daughter Janice spent a couple of days last week with Mrs. Bode's parents, (Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cruiclt- shank. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Taylor were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. James Brophy and Louis Heerdt was a guest of his brother Walter Algona Upper Pea Moiaes, AJgotta, Iowa, April 16,1943 and family. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Alt and family were Sunday guests at the home of their daughter (Pearl) Mrs. Ell Gerber and farnfly at West Bend. Mrs. Louisa McNutt returned from Ames Sunday where she had been visiting her son Sam and family for the past week. Mr. and Mirs. Walter Gorman 'drove down and brought her back to Algona. Cecil, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Will, who was recently drafted In the armed forces was placed in the navy much to his liking. ' He did not have his assignment where he would be sent when he wrote, but will be placed in the air corps. ' Marabeth Will is resigning her position with the'Kennedy & Parson Company at Sioux City, where she has been employed the past four or five years. She will spend a few weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Will, before making other plans. The buildings on the James Brophy farm have been recently painted. The house on the Jens Sorensen farm, tenanted by a Mr. Nauman who recently moved there, has been newly painted. These improvements add 'much to the appearance of a community. , Howard Sarchet, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sarchet, returned home last week from his studies at Iowa State College at Ames. He was inducted into the army of the U. S. this week. He drove to Ames last Friday and brought Ms fiancee, 'Clarice Harlan, home for a weekend visit. mdse.
