Gilbert White will go to Salt Lake to attend school this winter. Sam Gridlev went to Missouri yesterday with two cars of horses.

Miss Ora Mullins attended the teachers meeting here this week. Commissioner Gridley did not meet with the county dads this trip, Lee Vader was shaking hands with his many Shoshone friends Tuesday. Wm. Wallace returned from Omaha Sunday, where he had been with stock. Judge Waters has tbe cribs at the head of the town ditch about comDleted, so that next year wo will have plenty of water.

The body of James Guthrie, who was drowned in Snake river was found Monday, abou six miles below tbe point where he lost his life. Lincoln county had but one aspirant for office on the democratic state ticket, and the poor fellow The corps of teachers for the Shoshone public school for the ensuing term are: Professor Novinger, Miss Mattie Wright, Miss Lenora Griffin and Mrs Leah Burnside. We received a fine box of peaches this week, from the Blue Lakes ranch, a gift from Bert Perrine. Thanks Bert, but in order to 'fill up' we will come down and camp in the orchard, Frank Burkill went gunning for ducks Sunday.

Joe Waldron has returned from his trip to Boise, and we notice that he now wears mourning. Upon inqury as to the cause, Joe informed us, that, during his absence, some unholy cuss had stolen his whetrock, Knights of Chancellor Commander, E. Hall, will be present at the Castle Hall, Saturday evening Sept. 3d. All Knights are requested to appear at the Castle at 8:30 o'clock.

Chancellor Commander. An explosion took place in town one night the first of the week, and the next morning when we went around we found it to be only the explosion of the powder on a young lady's face, the concussion being caused by the friction of her lips with those of her best fellow. Please sing. Judge Stockslager and wife returned from Boise Sunday night. While there the Judge was renominated by the democratic party for District Judge of the Fourth Judicial district.

Judge Stockslager is well known to everyone in this district. A better or stronger man could not be found for this honorable Dosition. Doc Smith has been experiment of mixing sawdust with his usual chicken feed of meal. He was so pleased with the experiment that he gave up feeding cornmeal and fed them sawdust instead. Shortly after he set a hen with fifteen eggs.

Last week she came off with thirteen curious chicks. Twelve them had wooden legs and the other one was a woodpecker. As there were no eye witnesses to the tragedy it is not known exactly how the young man met his fate; but from all tbat can be learned it appears that Mr. Lewis hpd been helping the "Gridley boys" drive and brand horses, for several days previous, and was returning home on horseback on the south side of When he reached a point the river, about one half mile below the ferry he attempted to ford the river but in some he became unhorsed and was manner drowned. His horse swam out of the river on the same side that be had entered, with the bridle hanging to the saddle by the reins, and wa9 caught some distance below by Mrs. Austin. A suspicion was aroused that an accident had happened, and a party beaded by Wayne Neville and John High, commenced dragging the river, They were rewarded at about 4 o'clock.

He says that he enjoyed the exhibit fully as much as he did the World's Fair. We notice with a feeling of patriotic Dride, says the Carson Appeal, that the fair sex has taken to red, white and blue garters. The other day a San Francisco girl displayed her patiotism while climbing upon the top scat of the Glenbrook stage. The crowd on the sidewals was so impressed that nothing but real Nevada politeness restrained them from bursting into a cheer for the red, white and blue. ANNOUNCEMENTS.
