Anglers Club meeting held Monday night About 250 members were on hand to hear the speakers Commissioner Gluckler said the bill is on' its way to Tallahassee after having been approved by the Martin County legislative delegation The only hang up on the bill wais the approval of the Town of Jupiter Island which gave the okay' last month Gluckler said he feels certain there be any op position to the measure Sgt Byrd said he' sees no problem enforcing the measure He explained the main problem of enforcement is in court We make cases and then the offenders get off in court enforce this two rod beach Sheriff Holt agreed with Byrd saying second degree misdemeanor charges such as the rod limit laws have a hard tune getting through the courts He said the judge usually lets the offenders off The two rod limit if approved will carry a maximum penalty of a $500 fine and 60 days irrthe county jail Holt said he thinks the strengthof the law is the penalties believe the law will enforce itself Most people who fish here are law abiding citizens and if there is a law saying they use more than two rods on the beach I think they will obey it if there is gixid publicity so people know there is such a he continued they see someone breaking it they can call the Department and we will send a man out to check into the violation" The sheriff also answered questions about other areas of law enforcement Commissioner Gluckler spoke briefly on the St Lucie Inlet He said that in a meeting with officials of the US Army Corps of Engineers in Jacksonville he discovered a new reef is forming in the inlet The reef is the result of another dredging project which took place more than 15 years ago explained Gluckler At that tune a dredge dug rock and sand out of the inlet and on its way out to sea the barge hit bottom and it was necessary to throw off all the rock and sand which had been pumped onto a sand bar at the south end of the inlet The rock and debris that was dumped has shifted and is no the basis of the new reef said Gluckler Samples show the rock is worm rock looking more like cobblestones he adds Instead of the 'annual $10000 dredging project with a sidecaster the corps will bring heavy equipment in to do the job right says Gluckler The expense of this project will run about $200000 He said the Corps would like to have been able to do the work sooner than the projected Sept 9 date but red tape and ixihtics forbid it now and Sept 9 going tQ have to get the permission of 35 separate agencies before the Corps can do anything to the inlet It's going to take every day until Sept 9 to accomplish he adds Answering questions about trash on the beach strips Gluckler said one of the main problems is finding help to do the work Items Remember: HI sll That right At Ament
