Its first agency for Decatur and Central Illinois was known as the Dillehunt-Free-mon Agency and was established in the early 1930 s. Present Management of ED. DROBISCH CO. 363 S. Main, Suite 180 Decatur, III.

The Wabash Employes' Hospital, found ed by the wobasn (employes Hospital Association, opened with 45 beds, at the corner of Herkimer (now Grand Ave.) ond Warren Streets, on October 7, 1903. The hospital operated exclusively for the care of employees of Wabash Rail rood until September 1965 when tt become a general public hospital. At that time the name was changed to Wabash Memorial Hospital. A new third floor addition, containing modem surgical suite, was completed in June 1967. The hospital now has 68 general hospital beds ond 9 long term care beds. It Is owned by the Wabash Memorial Hospital Association and governed by a Board of Managers consisting of labor and management representatives of the Norfolk Western Railway Company.

J. Pedde cord ond L. Burrows in a store at East Main Street in 1852. In 1912, the then called L. Burrows Co.

Bank merged with The National Bank of De catur, which was established December 26, 1873. The present bank building, erected in 1913-14, stands on the last site of the Peddecord and Burrows business. The bank was originally chartered as The Decatur National Bank, re-chartered in 1893 as The National Bank of De catur. The name was chonqed to The First National Bank of Decatur In June ot 1966. Total deposits as ot December 30, iw were lust under $40,000,000.00.

Decatur, Illinois Bachrachs was founded by Henry Bach-rach. The present management Includes the grandson of the founder, Henry Bachroch; Stanley Tugqle, General Man- aaer; Don Bolyord, Manager of Brett-wood Store; Bernard Bennett, Manager of Bloomington Store. The business began at the location where Millikin Bank is now, 100 N. Water St. In 1880 they moved to the 100 Merchant St.

location. Present 4 story building built In 1910 and all 4 floors occupied for men's and boy's wear In 1949. Opened second store In Brettwood In Feb. 1965. Opened third store Feb.

1967 in Bloominqton. Now employing approximately 60 people. 1878 HERALD AND REVIEW 365 N. Main St. Decatur, Illinois Decatur newspaper history starts with the first edition of the Decatur Weekly Gazette on June 25, 1851.

The Review and the Herald have Important roles in this history. The Review ancestry goes track to 1872 and the Herald 1879. The Review became a daily In 1878 and the Herald In 1880. It is from these dates that anniversaries on the mastheads are numbered. The Review as a daily im-merged from several predecessor pop-ers and consolidations.

The Review was started as a weekly paper In April, 1872, by Rev. Alfred F. Wuensch. In 1874, the paper was leased to John Lindsay, fath er of Frank Lindsay now Chairman of the Board of Llndsay-Schaub Newspap ers. S.

S. Jack bought the Review In 1880 and added type and new presses. The Review Publishing Company was formed in 1887 by several stockholders. In 1888, John P. Drennan and Jerry Donahue of Roodhouse, bought into the company.

Mr. H. C. Schaub came along to look at the plant ond remained as reporter. He become a stockholder and then president of the company In 1891, and remained president until his death in 1947.

It moved into this building In 1895. Eventually, the Review combined with the Republican. In 1899 ft ceased morning publication ond began to oubiish every afternoon ana sunoay. The Decatur Herald began as a weekly when N. Walls started the Saturday Herald In Decatur In 1879.

After several changes of management. It consolidated with the DesDOtch in isvo as the Memia- DesDOtch. In the meantime, John Lind say hod published the Labor Bulletin starting In 1885 In the basement room of the corner of South Pork ond State Streets. The name was changed to the News which he published until his death In 1899. The Herald-Despatch then took over the News ond changed the name of all of them back to The Heraia.

iwr. Frank Lindsay bought Into The Herald In 1912. He was general manoger until he become president when the new cor- do rat on was formed in 1720. bepiemoer, 1931, the Herald and Review consolidated as the Decatur Newspapers Incor porated. That name was changed to Llndsay-Schaub Newspapers In T952.

Adams St. Chicago, III. Commonwealth Edison Co. was founded in Chicogo as the Chtcogo Edison Com pany in April, 1887, present managers of the firm Is J. Harris Ward, Chairman and Thomas G.

Ayers, President. The owner and operator of Kincaid mine-mouth electric generating station near Taylorville, Commonwealth Edison Company, is one of the nation's largest investor-owned power companies. The company today supplies electricity to almost 2j million customers ond an estimated population of 7Vi million, principally In northern Illinois. Kincaid is the newest of Edison's 15 generating stations. It was placed In service In June, 1967 when its first unit went on line.

A second unit of the same size is scheduled for service in May, 1968. The station Is supplied with coal from the nation's largest deep mine, located about one mile from the plant. Lake Kincaid, a man-made reservoir that covers four square miles and averoqes 13 feet in depth, provides cooling water for the station's steam condensers. F. E.

Moore sold to M. J. Lowry in 1913; M. J. Lowry sold to S.

M. Meece In 1958. The store manufactured trunks, luggage, mattresses boxes until 1907. Then lust trunks, luqgoqe end special cases until 1924. Then trunk luggaqe manufocturlno was dropped we continued on with special cosss repairs until about 1940, when all special work was drooped.

Now, the store Is almost strictly retail, but very personal specialists In their line of merchandise. Mr. S. M. Meece Is the present manager.

THE CITIZEN'S NATIONAL BANK 236 North Water Decotur, III. The Citizen's National Bank was founded In June, 1891 by J. R. Gorln, President J. A.

Dawson, Cashier. The bank's first "statement ot condition" in 1891 showed capital of $100,000, no surplus, ond profits and reserves of SI ,183. Deposits In 1891 totaled amount $136,000. Morgan Decotur, Illinois Neisler Laboratories, Inc.

was founded In February, 1886 by P. J. and James Finn. The company, a manufacturer ot pre scription drugs, began in 1886 in De catur as the McLean Medicine Com pany. It soon became Smith, Hubbard and Co.

In 1892 it changed to Irwin, Kirkland and which merged with Neisier, eurweii CO. in ivu? to become Irwin, Neisler Co. In 1963 the name was changed to Neisler Laboratories, Inc. The company has hod locations at 500 North Morgan, 100 East William 128 West William, ond the East side of Central Park, Since 1931, when i building on the comer of North and Morgan Streets was occupied. It has been in the 400 block of North Morgan Street.

In 1947 an odfoinlng two story building was acquired, ond in 1954 new building next to the existing plant was added. In 1960 new research lob- oratory was occupied ot 1800 East Pershing Rood. The Kirkland family was cs-l sociated with the company for 73 originally with J. 'H. Kirkland.

His son, E. T. Kirkland, became President In 1911 and held that position until his death In 1947. His widow, Mrs. Eva M.

Kirkland, became Chairman of the Board at that time ond retained the position until the company was sold In 1965 to Union Carbide. The President of Neisler is Mr. G. G. Hunt whose office Is lo cated In the Union Carbide Building In New York City, along with Marketing.

Research Is being carried on by Neisler personnel in conjunction with Union Car bide efforts In Tarrytown ond Tuxedo, New York and Decatur, Illinois. A re sult of this effort Is a new and highly successful line ot radiopharmaceutical products which Neisler began marketing in 1967. Manufacturing and oil other elements of the business ore In Decatur under the direction of Dr. A. V.

Zuber, Vice President, Operations. The Treasurer, L. D. Ater, ft also located In April, 1892, Edmond, Ulysses Eras-tus DeMoulin founded the DeMoulin Brothers and Company. The Company's first products were paraphernalia and regalia manufactured ond sold to lodges.

By 1900 band uniforms were being manufactured for municipal bands. With the development of music programs in schools, the firm devoted more of Its efforts In making band uniforms tor high schools and colleges. It wasn't long until the manufacture of caps and gowns and choir robes along with the rental of academic apparel ployed major part in the Company's growth and development. The principal lines ore now band uniforms, caps and gowns and choral robes. Several prominent fraternal or ganizations still look to the Company as their official supplier.

Water Street Decotur, Illinois The original store started in 1875 by Pet er Fo rath Cerro Gordo. Peter -oi rath was a boot ond shoe maker. Davis B. Folrath moved the store to Decatur around 1895. The store was later man aged by his son, Thomas Folrath as partnership.

It was managed through World War II by Mrs. Beatrice r-oi rath, widow of Thomas Folrath from 1941 to 1946 during Davis B. Folrath 2nd's military service. Davis B. Folrath 2nd is the 4th generation owner of the store.

Built building and moved to present location, 456-460 North Water In 1924. James J. Moron, Sr. died March 19, 1926. Louis A.

Moran and Ambrose C. Moron, Sr. were associated with their father before his death. In 1946, James J. Moron, Jr.

became associated with the business. Louis A. Moron died In July 20, 1948. James J. Moran, Jr.

become sole owner on August 1, 1964. RODGERS SHOES 100 E. William Decatur, 111. The Rodqers Shoe Store opened on Merchant Street In 1898. The store was pur chased from Freeman Bros.

We moved to E. Main St. where store was burn ed out. It was re-opened as the coie- Rodqers store, with H. W.

Rodgers C. E. Rodaers as partners. When H. W.

Rodgers left, Guy R. Rodgers went In with his father, E. Rodgers ot the 130 E. William St. Location.

Upon the death of C. E. Rodgers, the store become a corporation with G. R. Rodgers and Mr.

Mrs. Donald B. Miller (Norma Rodaers). At retirement age, Guy R. Rodaers sold his stock to Mr.

Mrs. Miller. In 1959 Mr. Mrs. Miller sold th store to present owner, Mr.

Arthur L. Squires. In January 1962 the store moved to Its present location. In 1918 a vouno lodv came to work tor E. Rodaers, she Is Miss Hazel Wllev.

J. Gauger in 1899. The present manoaer of the firm Is John J. Gauger son. Came Into firm in July, 1911, after graduating from Ohio Wesleyan Univer sity.
