Thursday, February 22, 1934. DECATUR HERALD FAGK ELEVEN. HAVE BEEN MARRIED 64 YEARS Morehouse Wells Go. GIRLHOOD IS SHORT ENOUGH-DON'T SPOIL IT MOTHER NEEDS SELF CONTROL Calm Air Has More Impression on Child Than Loud Words and Actions 1,1 Mi be done, simply see that the child does it, not egged on by words, threats or whippings, but by the actual performance of the task. At all times keep that calm, unfluster-ed, unfrigbtened air" which impresses the child with your superiority and your right to suggest to him and to manage him.

Gitanos club was entertained Tuesday evening in the home of Miss Eernice Bauman. Officers were elected for the year as follows: President Bernice Bauman. Secretary -treasurer Christine Zipse. Press reporter Mrs. Edward E.

rents are bosses. They dress him, feed him, shelter him, protect him, furnish him money. They don't come to him for orders. They give orders. In the face of that very obvious "bossism" why must the mother flourish a weapon to proclaim and convince the child that she is his boss? More Self-Control But she must keep a rein on emotions: The child knows only too well when he has her on the run.

He knows it by her tension, by her attitude of irritability, her loud words and louder spanks. He knows that he has her bested, and the knowledge is fuel to the flames. Learn to be calm in the face of the child's opposition. Expect him to be good, instead of showing by your fearsome and distrustful attitude that you don't expect anything but disobedience. You are a grown up person with slightly greyish hair and a face that he loves without ever really seeing. Wouldn't Recognize You The person who gets the next letter would hardly recognize his conception of you at all. For that letter goes to an old friend. You write her a letter that breaks into the old time sparkle that she always evoked in you.

You are no longer "mother." You are the Nancy that you always were to your friend of that period. She picks up the letter and doubtless sees or at least feels that Nancy, even though she knowi very well that you are 25 yearn older. By ANGELO PATRI Girls in their early teens feel themselves ready to enter the grownup world and share the activities of their elders. Especially the pleasure activities. This can't be done. It is useless to fly In the face of facts. Girls have a period of girlhood.

They are given this time to perfect their growth. When they try to rush this growth and be what they are not and cannot be, they blight their own development. They do to themselves about what an over anxious gardener does when he fries to help a rosebud open ahead of time. Nobody gets any pleasure out of that sort of thing and the flower is killed in the process. Girls ought to be glad they are girls and get all the fun possible out of it.

Their turn coming and coming fast. They ought to be going along with the campfire girls, hiking, climbing, camping and swimming. They need to be building their bodies so they will be beautiful in their health and buoyancy. High school girls need to play with the boys of course. But why not in moderation? Why pick on one boy and rush him to boredom? Why not spread out a little and so get a better and truer view of the whole matter? One boy is no fair sample of the genus.

Know the whole crowd, play with a group, hold fast to the best when the best has been proven. That is where girls are likely to part company with their elders. Their elders want them to take time to prove things and the girls are impatient to swallow all the experiences that come, in no matter what form, whole and without salt. Why not grow according to the scheme nature laid down in the beginning? Nobody can keep your own growth from you. Not even yourself.

Tou can mar it badly by a of the whip. There is no way in which a mother admits her fear and helplessness any more plainly than by spanking the child. But she bouys herrelf up with words. Of Course It Can Be Arranged People sometimes find it difficult to conceive a heaven in which we meet those we have lost, because they do not see how one person can appear in the different forms in which those whom he has known of the last 15 years, the Mrs. Leigh-ton who is always so good at organizing dramatics, who hates to sell tickets, who is a clever bridge play er, who lives in a charming little home and has three desirable children but doesn't let them absorb her on earth will seek him.

The mother personality. DESIGNATED TO FLATTER rushing it. Tou can be that spectacle, a girl-woman, aping the ways of the worn coquette, hiding your own fresh color behind the clownish paint, warping" your charms of girlhood in a vain effort to be an experienced woman of the world. You can hinder yourself but you can neither hurry nor delay your arrival at womanhood's estate. Then be what you are, a girl.

That is what you are anyway and it is a lovely thing to be. Be a real one with health in your body, and health in your mind, with a song of joy on your lips, the light of faith in your eye. Maturity Is coming. Play while you can. She Still Feels You As a Daughter "With love, dear, from Anne," who died when he was a child will want to find her little boy again, the younger sister who left him when he was a man of 30 will want her big brother, the children whom he left at his death will look for their father.
