Coney Island area renovated URBANA DAILY CITIZEN riday May 23 1986 Page 7 Kings Island is celebrating 1 5th anniversary KINGS ISLAND Ohio Kings Island will celebrate its 15th an niversary this season with a $2 million renovation of the famous Coney Island theme area that in cludes the addition of four major new attractions three thrilling rides and a Cinema 180 Theatre The name of the area has even been changed to Coney Mall since it is a re creation of the main mall at the old Coney Island amusement park which closed in 1971 At that time many of the attractions at old Coney were moved to Kings Island including the ginko trees which lined the mall This 15th anniversary season the entire Coney Mall will also take on a colorful new blue green and yellow look There will be a variety of new games kiosks and a new fountain surrounded by some of the ginko trees The trio of new rides include: Skylab a 90 foot wheel of 15 cars that spin around at high speeds and turn upside down Zephyr a breath taking chair swing ride that hurls riders 50 feet out into space and a bigger and better Dodgem The Cinema 180 Theatre at the end of Coney Mall will feature an ad venture film that makes viewers feel as though they are a part of the ac tion Just a few of the thrills are a runaway train roller coaster rides and a peek into Mount St crater Lewis Hooper Vice president and General Manager of Kings Island said of the 1986 season are proud to present a new look in one of our most popular theme areas Coney Mall in this special an niversary year There are four ex citing new attractions there awaiting Kings Island visitors but the nostalgia still remains for those who fondly remember old fix' v'v 1 1 AA mA KTr iff lying away The Zephyr Kings Island new breath taking chair swing ride is located on the refurbished Coney Mall Other new additions to Coney area golf putting course where the old Dodgem was located and an ex pansion of Soundtracks Recording Studio so that park visitors can also make musical video tapes as well as recordings The new service is $1995 Coney is also the site of The Racer roller coaster which opened with the park in 1972 The twin track wooden coaster is credited with reviving the interest in roller coasters in America A 23 year old Cincinnatian Don Helbig has ridden it over 5000 times and thus holds the record for most consecutive rides on a coaster He plans to continue his marathon riding this season Show offerings The 1986 show schedule at Kings Island includes a major new musical production in the American Heritage Music Hall The show will be presented numerous times daily by 16 talented singer dancers The popular esthaus will feature updated versions of the two shows that appeared there last season a German variety show entitled and a salute to the big band era of the forties Ball International Showplace outdoor amphitheatre will be the site of three original shows in 1986 a popular music show a toe tapping country music production in the Heart of and a delightful show featuring the Smurfs Curse of The International Street bandstand will feature the Delta Steamers a five piece New Orleans style dixieland band and there will be a variety of roving entertainers all Match a tent to your own camping style Planning a camping trip but confused about the kind of tent to buy? worry say experts at the Coleman Company a manufacturer of tents and camping equipment Choosing the right tent for your camping needs doesn't have to be difficult To make the best in vestment of your dollars you need only to ask and answer several questions How many people will be sleeping in the tent?
