An automatic relay system' recently constructed off Ohio 119 near Maple wood means public television broadcasting will become a reality for area residents The system picks up the signal of WPTD (Channel 16) in Dayton and rebroadcasts it on Channel 63 in the Maplewood area A second relay system has been constructed at the West ern Branch of Wright State University instem Branch of Wright the school needs hand tools for the industrial arts programs He asked local residents who have tools to donate to contact him Among items needed are hammers power tools and saws In addition he asked that persons interested in being hired as bus drivers should apply to him Board members approved the Title IV pro gram for the year clearing the way for teach ers to apply for federal grants to fund projects in their classes Last year airlawn schools received $7000 in grants Conard said the amount was one of the high est in all school districts in the state Teachers can apply for as much as $2000 for a classroom project Board members also took the following action: Accepted a resignation from Orville Tuss ing who resigned as cross country coach be cause of time conflicts Tussing will continue in his capacity as teacher athletic director and track coach Hired Craig Inman to cany out the duties of cross country coach at a salary of $280 per year Accepted the resignations of Richard Cost as bus driver the Rev Wayne Nelson as bus driver and Mrs Emma Jean Andrews as cook Hired Gary Allen as junior high school in tramural director at $200 per year Hired Ronald Middleton as bus driver The salary has not yet been set Approved the new handbook and student handbooks for Pemberton and Platts ville VERSAILLES County and village offi i ciais concerned with the proposed construc tion of a new section of Ohio 121 through Russia agreed Jo consider one obstacle at a time last night at a special meeting at Ver sailles High School The first obstacle to the proposal is ar ranging an acceptable trade with the Ohio Highway Department for a stretch of pres ent state highway to be turned over to a county or township The second obstacle would be funding the project Hugh Simpson a representative from Di vision Seven of the highway department said the state is reluctant to allow Construction of new mileage without a compensating trade to keep total state mileage about the same Greg Taylor a representative for thq con sulting firm Ralph L'Woolpert Company Dayton reviewed alternative proposals for the state route outlined at a Russia Village Council meeting held Aug 29 Taylor said the best alternative calls for the conversion of Versailles Road to a state highway (Ohio 121) which would meet at McGreevey Road in Darke County He also outlined possible sections of high way to be redesignated county or township roads and suggested all parties concerned confer and arrive at a definite trade propos al to present to state highway authorities One of the main purposes of the meeting was to formally present the proposal to Shel by and Darke County Commissioners or about one half hour it appeared Darke County Commissioners would not be repre sented but Commissioner Norman Trittschuh who said he had been at another meeting arrived apologized for being late and gave his personal tentative approval of the proposal Trittschuh said Darke County was spend 1 renovate 16 it would take to begin the project if plans proceeded smoothly Russia Mayor Edward Borchers said years Taylor said if the project were delayed a year it might raise the estimated cost as much as 25
