Fact lies close to fiction as was evidenced last week when the stock organization of the Selig- Polyscope Company in Chicago started out for a trip on the Great Lakes to enact a realistic, modern melodrama.

Arrangements had all been made for the company to utilize the biggest steel steamer on fresh water, the celebrated whaleback, "Columbus." the pride of a certain steamship line running out of Chicago. Unfortunately, the day the company were to act their thrilling drama over, one of the boats of the same line coming in from a long trip in the fog, collided with -a sister ship, tearing a hole 20 feet wide in her quarter, so that she sank in a very few minutes. Fortunately, this accident took place in the river with many tugs in the immediate vicinity, so that there was no loss of life. However, it was rather a bad precedent to follow in taking the company out to enact a shipwreck with an ensuing panic, which the mind of the traveling public was alive to the very late impression of marine accidents and close escapes. However, Superintendent Thorn of the Goodrich Line, was not afraid and kept his nromise.
