THE NOME NUGGET Friday, December 12, 1952 Cooky and Candy Sale Tomorrow For Benefit Beta Hot Lunch Program A sale of home-made cookies and candy will be held at the N.C. Co. store Saturday by the Beta Sigma Phi. Also, the Doll will be on display and tickets for its raffle will be sold there. The doll is now on display in the show window of the Nome Motor Co.

Her wardrobe is increasing constantly. The attractive parka has been donated by Polets Store and the rest of its clothing was hand-made by the members of the Beta Sigma Phi. The latest addition added last night is an authentic Danish costume by Ellen Waldhelm. The proceeds from these are for the Hot Lunch Program starting next month for the school children living too far away to go home for lunch. The Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met Thursday night at the home of its sponsor, Mrs.

Robert Baldwin and Mrs. Pete Olson as hostesses. The out going president, Mrs. Norvin Lewis, presented all members with miniature rose corsages. During the year each member of the organization received a lovely handmade pot holder, on her birthday, made by the president.

Richard Lee Grandfather Again Mr. and Mrs. Charles West are the parents of a son born Wednesday morning in Seattle weighing pounds. He has been named Richard Greenwood, after his maternal grandfather, Richard Lee of Nome. This is the fourth child for the Wests who now have two sons and two daughters.

Lawrence Okpealuk Returns From Ft. Benning Infantry Radio Maintenance School Lawrence Okpealuk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Okpealuk of Nome and a graduate last spring from Nome High, returned recently from Fort Benning where he studied infantry radio maintenance, completing the course. This course trains enlisted men to repair and maintain all radio sets and allied equipment peculiar to the infantry units.

Mala Dies In Hollywood Word has been received here of the death of Ray Mala. formerly Ray Wise, several weeks ago of a heart attack at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Hollywood, California. Ray Wise, who legally adopted the name Mala, after his portrayal of that part in the film "Eskimo" was in his late 40's and had lived. in Candle, Kotzebue and Nome before he moved to the film capital.

He acted in several pictures, the best known of which were "The Last of the Pagans" and "The Eskimo." The latest film he acted in was "Red Snow." Of late years he has been a cameraman for Twenty-Century Fox Films. He is survived by his widow Galena, a six-year-old son Theodore, and his father, Mr. Wise, all of Hollywood; and two sisters, Laurena McConnell of Candle and Harriet Chapman of Seattle. Mr. and Mrs.

Jacob Ahwinona are the parents of a daughter born at the hospital today and weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces. Mr. Ahwinona is with the U.S. Smelting Co. The fire department was called to the residence of Lt.
