Marie Cardlnell of 1523 Tenth avenue South in Police Judge Conlan's court yesterday, when she was arrested on complaint of Henry Leroy, an aged Frenchman, on a charge of felony embezzlement. As stated in The Call yesterday, Leroy was 'arrested on complaint of O'Neill Eber, jewelers, 1744 Fillmore street, on a charge of obtaining goods by false pretenses. On the representation that he had money on deposit in tlie London; Paris and American bank, ho purchased a diamond ring. valued at and a gold bracelet valued $65, which he presented to Cardlnell In the store. It was found that he had no money In the bank, and repeated demands for payment of the account were unsuccessful.

A search warrant was obtained to recover possession of the ring and bracelet from Mrs. Cardinell Thursday, but a return was made yesterday that the articles could not be found. Mrs. Cardlnell told the Judge conflicting stories. She first said that her attorney had advised her not to give up the articles: then she said that Leroy had taken them from her trunk; which Leroy vehemently denied' Leroy said that he had made her the' presents-because she had been kind to him 'and his daughter, and Mrs.

Cardlnell asserted that She had advanced him at different times 100, as he led her to believe that he was wealthy, and that was why 6he had received the presents. She said she was a married woman, but her husband was in France. The Judge thought 'that Mrs. Cardlnell was not dealing fairly with the court, and suggested to Leroy that swear to a complaint charging her with embezzlement, which hhre readily consented to do. Mrs.

Cardlnell whispered to a young girl who. was sitting behind, her to hurry home and get everything out of the way. After Leroy had sworn to the complaint Mrs. Cardlnell was booked at the city prison.
