Lewis, who visited Mrs. C. Armstrong for the past two weeks, returned this morning to Leland. Miss Hazel Barrow went to Roseburg this morning to visit her sister, Mrs. Briggs.

Ten-cent enamelware sale at Cramer Bros. 757 G. P. Jester, of the Grants I Pass Banking company, went to Jacksonville this morning on -business. Roubaix Richey arrived this morning from San Francisco to visit his mother and sister and other relatives and friends.

P. R. Albrecht and wife, of Los Angeles, stopped off last night in Grants Pass, leaving north this morning. Mrs. David Carmmary, who spent the past six weeks with her parents, left this morning, returning to her home at Roundup, Mont.

Miss Catharine Clemens returned this morning from Palo Alto, where she attended a girls' school, and will spend the vacation at home. Grant Swayze and family, residents of Josephine county for the past five years, left this afternoon for Cortland. N. to be with Mr. Swayze's aged parents.

757 REFUSE FUNSTON'S REQUEST FOR COAST ARTILLERYMEN Washington, May that General Funston had requested additional coast artillerymen for infantry service along the Mexican border were confirmed today when it was announced the suggestion had been refused. In explanation of its refusal, the war department said it did not desire to strip the coast defenses further. The request came subsequently to the summoning of militia. Columbus, N. May -New orders were forwarded to General Pershing from General Funston today, governing the course to be taken by U. S. forces in the event of a clash with Carransa troops. These orders were necessitated by the strong reinforcements just received by Mexican columns near the American expedition.

White House Grocery LIFE SENTENCE FOR CALIFORNIA WOMAN San Andreas, May Mrs. George Schwoerer started for San Quentin today to serve a life sentence for 'helping Joe Silva, a ranch hand, murder her husband, by whom he was employed. Silva was convicted and given a life term. As Judgment was pronounced, the woman leaped up in court and declared that she also was guilty. Proceedings in her case were rushed and she was given a similar sentence.
