shoulder the annual Pirate estival is scheduled riday Saturday and next Sunday in Krull Park Things kick off at 6 pm riday with carnival rides live music from Hair Nation various vendors food and a beer tent (for ages 21 and older) run ning until midnight The parade gets started at noon Saturday with partici pants and spectators encouraged to wear pirate themed costumes Rides live music vendors food and drink continue until midnight live music lineup includes Jim Sansone from 1 to 4 pm the Diva Show Band from 4 to 7:30 and the Teasers from 8 to midnight The event also runs from noon to 6 pm Sunday featuring Jonesie and the Pirates from 1 to 5 pm Admission and parking are free have quite a few new vendors this year said Robert Horanburg who is the event chairman for the Ol cott ire Company which sponsors the event have vendors selling sun glasses shirts crafts leather items and pirate type things for example We also have information booths and pony rides for the kids we have Ye Pyrate Brother hood he said dress up like pirates and put on plays and pretend to fight and interact with the kids and with the adults Ye Pyrate Brotherhood formed a decade ago and travels along the East Coast bringing historical education and theatrical entertainment to people in the form of 17th century re enact ment Its members depict buccaneers privateers and pirates according to its website wwwyepyratebrotherhood com In addition the Pirate estival Car Show runs from 10 am to 4 pm Sat urday Awards will be given to the top show cars music will provided by DJ the Dee Jay and 5050 raffles will be offered Preregistration for cars is $10 or $12 the day of the show A portion of the proceeds goes to the fire company There is free admission for spectators Participants may register their cars at wwwPirateAutoShowcom This is the third year for the car show with the storm we had last year we still had 150 to 160 cars which was pretty said one of the car show organizers Ray Catanesi give Pirate estival is a major fund raiser for the volunteer fire company saving for a new rescue truck and that will cost us around $230000 or said Horanburg has been an ongoing project for the past five to seven years We set aside funds for new equipment and been fortunate to get quite a few grants for things like monitors and fuel for our boat But a new rescue truck is a big chunk and just a small Horanburg said been with the company whole life My dad was fire chief my grandfather was chief I was an assistant chief and the boat chief and been the committee chairman for the festival for almost 10 years This is definitely a fam ily he said something the whole family can also a chance to bring people down to the lakefront to patronize the local businesses and restaurants he added as well as the nearby board walk and Olcott Beach Carousel Park King Harvest honors in moonlight By Teresa Sharp NEWS CORRESPONDENT OLCOTT Get ready for some in the Moon as King Harvest plans a concert July 19 at the Olcott Beach Carousel Park with Ol cott native Ron Altbach and friends King Harvest reunited for the first time in 40 years last summer and drew more than 3000 to this quiet lakeside community This con cert planned for 8:30 pm will be held in a more intimate set ting on the carousel park stage and there will be a fee Tire $25 admission fee en titles concert goers to an eve ning of live music a 40th anni versary show commemorative shirt concert DVD and two drinks Only 200 tickets will be sold and all will be presale Keyboardist Altbach formed King Harvest with three others while living in Paris in 1970 They met while attending Cor nell University and also in cluded David Robinson on lead vocals bass and key boards Eddie Tuleja on guitar and Rod Novak on saxophone in the was King biggest hit reaching No 13 on the Bill board Hot 100 list in 1973 This concert will be according to Altbach who said Robinson passed away in December at age 66 will be playing a new song been Altbach Eddie Tuleja and David Robinson who passed away in December Novak Altbach and Tuleja will reunite again on July 19 for a concert at Olcott Beach Carousel Park They will play new song called in memory he added Altbach said Tuleja who now lives in Tasmania is cur rently in New Jersey with No vak preparing for the concert which will also include local guitarist and singer Dave Stoll whom known for 30 years Altbach is a classically trained pianist who now lives in New York City where he serves as president of Regenera tion Capital Group LLC But he maintains a summer home in Olcott ollowing the dissolu tion of King Harvest in the mid he toured for a while with the Beach Boys and with Mike band Celebration After the group finally dis banded and the musicians went their separate ways at alls Country Club By Teresa Sharp MAGARA CORRESPONDENT LEWISTON The Hap pened to oundation will hold its 11th annual dinner Aug 2 at Niagara alls Country Club The only one of its kind in the nation the Lewiston based foundation provides financial emotional and advocacy assis tance to victims of sexual at tacks who prosecute ounded by Tom and Stacey Branchini the foundation hon ors the courage of their daugh ter Alexa who survived the rape by a stranger who broke into her college dormitory the second w'eek of her freshman year In the 11 years since it was established the foundation has offered support to hundreds of victims of sexual assault and their families aiding US citi zens in 43 states and 15 for eign countries The foundation assists rape victims and their families by helping offset travel expenses during the litigation process The annual fundraiser atthe country club will feature a bas ket auction and entertainment by a local band sponsored by Hops and Vines Keith Rad ford will host the event which will honor two people in the victim advocate field one from Niagara County and one from Erie County as chosen by their peers The foundation started an educational outreach program a few years ago and hired a part time educational outreachvic tim support advocate Sandra Lahrache last fall Lahrache is a licensed victim advocate and crisis service counselor and is available to present a program on preventing date rape called which is based on a national program The foun dation established this pro gram as a response to the statis tic that one in three adolescents is a victim of dating abuse County has lost most of its funding for the Safe Dates program but we have so many requests for the educa tional said Ellen Au gello executive director of the foundation fact we may have to hire another part time person Much of the proceeds from the Lewiston dinner will go to this effort All the schools want this and are required to include it in their Lahrache also recently start ed a Safe Dates program for special needs students who are especially vulnerable Augello said new program has been very very well Next year the foundation will launch a Mount Kiliman jaro fundraising climb that will include a seven day trek with a base camp set up by a five star resort to include gourmet meals and world renowned tour guides Events to benefit the organization are also held each year in Palm Beach la Boston and Houston The Al exa oundation has attracted a great deal of national attention in the past decade with cover age on the show CNN the Montel Williams Show and
