The second was the Kiasisaippi Missouri railroad, the precursor of the Rock Island, held on the 6th day of August, 1853. The complete record of this election, even to the tally list, warn found by J. Norwood dark, a few days since among some old papers, and by his courtesy we reprint it of special interest as giving a nearly complete list of the TOters of that time, most of whom have since joined the majority. Iowa City township at that time included East and West Lucas townships, as well as Iowa City.

The return is given in the original spzUing. So far aa it can be judged, no errors are corrected, and it it hoped few are introduced. It is probably not in the writing of either of the clerks, except in small part. Nos. 187 to 322, page 4, is in Mr.

Lathrop's characteristic and unchanged handwriting. State of Iowa Rail Road Election Johnson Iowa City Township We, Jacob Ricord, Samuel Magill, and Henry Albrecht, judges, and Chauncey F. Lovelace, and Henry W. Lathrop, do solemnly swear that we will impartially and to the best of oar knowledge and ability perform the duties of judges and clerks of this election, and will studiously endeaTOrto prevent fraud, deceit, and abuse, in conducting the same. April 17. Charles Smith and William Johnson were killed and J. Fisher and W. R. Hamilton seriously wounded Tuesday iu the course of an election riot in Wiustan- ley Park, a suburb of East St.

Louis. 111. Hamilton's wounds are serious. Fred Aver, is alleged to have fired the shots, is under arrest. The trouble grew out of the election contest between Henry Drumnioisd and Raymond R- Dojo, opposing candidates for the position of illage president.

The killed and wounded were partisans of Drummond. Meadville, April 17. Frank Major, alias Daniel J. Kehoe. was hanged in the county jail yard at 2:06 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.

Death reulted in ix minutes from strangulation. The condemned man met death unflinchingly and without making any statement on the scaffold. Major's crime was the murder of Chief of Police Daniel McGrath, of Titusville. on November 11, 1899. THIN PEOPLE a Mpirailan to become plump.
