Smith was at Franklin school. Superintendent Frank Henderson was authorized by the board to appoint, as a temporary substitute for Miss Cleaveland, Miss Nellie May Chapman, graduate of Santa Ana High school and Junior college, and U. C. L. who Is now a private music Instructor at Beverly Hills.

Appoint New TescHer It decided to appoint Miss WJUys Anderson to Mrs. position for the first semester. She was employed a few days ago as a secretary in the attendance office at Willard school. Mrs. Mary Steffenson, who served part-time at the high school last term, was reappointed last night on recommendation of Prln Bill White, for many years active in Cuban political circles, and for some time confidential secretary to Cuban President Machado, was the featured speaker at meeting of the Santa Ana 20-30 club, at cafe. The speaker outlined some of the experiences encountered during hts years in Cuba, and told of the Roosevelt campaign during the Spanish-American war. Hs has lived for the past six years in Santa Ana, but said he was returning to Cuba in the next six months.

A representative of the Community Chest also appeared before the club, outlining the progress of the campaign, and tying the chest work in with the national relief program. The chest, he said, fills an invaluable role, in providing aid for those social agencies not affected by the national program. Harrison White, presiding, announced that a closed session of the club would be held next Tuesday night, to consider legislative and applications for new memberships. Committees of Orange county progressive political organizations will meet tonight to complete de- tails of this participa- tlon in the three-country prOgres- aive picnic to be held Sunday at Fairmount park, Riverside, It was announced today. The affair will be held under the sponsorship of liberal political organizations of Orange, Riverside and Fan Bernardino counties, with prominent authorized leaders of various organ izatons slated to speak.

The day will begin at 10 o'clock with a program of sports and music, followed by a basket lunch at noon.
