Always regarded as the best offense in advertising, Chevrolet's action in using this vast number of papers indicates that buying power in all sections of the country is in good shape. From the big cities to the small towns.

Chevrolet's message for 1932 was broadcast through the papers lof the various communities. It is I believed that the response to the new Chevrolet as Great American Value for definitely proves that economic stabilization is virtually at hand. Thousands upon thousands of I people saw the Chevrolet ad in I their daily papers and immediately went to the showrooms of the 10,000 Chevrolet dealers to inspect the new product. Dealers report that all were highly pleased with the silent syncro-mesh transmission in combination with selective free wheeling, down-draft carburetion, the 20 per cent increase in power, the hood doors instead of louvres and new "stabilized" front end construction which eliminates annoying weave and possibility of squeaks at points of stress. Everyone was extremely anxious I to drive the new car and put its (iO-horscpower motor to strict tests.

Expect Good Sales Chevrolet officials believe that I the car, which sells in the price range of the 1931 series, will rei eeive just as great a sales reception as its immediate predecessor, which led the nation in sales in 1931. The front seat adjustment feature did not escape the attention of those who inspected the car. This feature removes forever the difficulty of adjusting the front seat while driving.

It can be done easily now and without much effort. Business, in general, profited from the Chevrolet announcement. It is conservatively estimated that the introduction of the car added to the earnings of 200,000 people. The 21 Chevrolet domestic assembly plants, the Fisher body plants, the railroads, the myriad suppliers of incidentals for the car and deal' ers and salesmen are all busy on the new product. Free wheeling in the new Chevrolet, which is provided by an over-running clutch, engaged at the discretion of the driver by a control button on the dash, was also highly praised by those who took demonstration.

The most interesting phase, to many, in the new Chevrolet is the fact that the fenders, radiator and headlamps are carried on a single fender support unit, which is anchored at the center of the front cross member of the frame. This gives a very smooth riding feature and eliminates road fatigue or ragged nerves. The next citrus fair at Clover-: dale, Sonoma County, will be heldi February 19-22. THIS CURIOUS WORLD NEW DESOTO TO BE PRESENTED NEXT SATURDAY DETROIT, Jan. 2.

(Special) The DeSoto Motor Corporation launched an optimistic 1932 program here today with the announcement that a brilliant new De Soto six, stylishly advanced in appearance and embodying several highly important engineering developments to its price class, will be introduced next Saturday January 9. In confirming reports Soto would shortaly introduce a sensational new automobile, Byron Fow president of the company, declared thai i(fs organization was to accommodate a sizeable ijntfrea.se in business this year as of the new features added value built into car. we first began to think new De Soto nearly a year said Foy, engineers under the direction of Fred M. Zeder, vice president in charge of engineering, recognized the fact that 1932 would be a year of record values, both in the automobile in-1 dustry and cut. realized that despite the popular success of our 1931 product.

which was one of three cars in this business to top its 1930 record, we would need to build an outi standing automobile. Last March we settled down to that problem in earnest and now after months of intensive study, designing, experimenting and testing, we are ready with the finest product we have ever built and at the lowest price at which a De Soto car has ever been available. our new product, we feel that we have anticipated the popular demand for an unusual automobile. both from the standpoint of more automobile for the dollar and from the standpoint of advanced engineering design for which the Chrysler engineering staff is famous' feel that we have gone beyond what the motoring public expects to receive in a car at the De Soto price. Radically new beauty, new comfort in riding, new ease of control, added power and flashing acceleration are some of the factors that characterize the new De Soto; greater safety has been catered to in a dozen ways; the maximum in convenience has been provided.

more important than any of these, it seems to me, is the balanced design that features the new line. The relation of one new development to another has been studied closely so that we might unite these many new features in a harmonious, efficient unit that would provide the utmost in satisfactory performance over a lifetime of thousands upon thousands of The new De Soto will be one of the features at the New York. San Francisco and Los Angeles automobile shows opening next Saturday Newspaper men who have seen it say that it will be one of the outstanding attractions at automobile exhibitions this winter. Ihe new car went into production here last week. After the first tew cars were built production was speeded up as fast as is consistent with De quality manufact tiling methods, so that dealers in all parts of the country might be in position to make prompt deliveries Youngster Runs Afoul Of Law There is at least one small bov in Imperial Valley who will think twice again before throwing a casual rock at passing automobiles after his experience of yesterday afternoon.

For the law looms big in the eyes of youth, and Jack Carter, who is something ove six feet tall, looms especially Carter delivered himself of a lecture to a youngster near the Meloland store late yesterday after the boy heaved a rock the right window of C. Hunick's automobile as it was passing. From the boy's half-tearful remarks during the course of the lecture, the officer gathered the impression it will be a long time before he throws another even in a hundred-acre tied, -gJI EASTERN TEAM IS WINNER IN SHRINE GAME B.v ALANSON W. 2. (U.R) The palm went to the east today for its single touchdown over the west in a muddy battle of the All-Americans here New Year's day- Easter pre- we Soggy, 'rain-soaked gridiron stadium, where some 60,000 watched Jim Purvis of Purdue clinch the game, 6 to 0, with a touchdown in the opening period. With the lone score on the records, the game resolved itself into a punting duel broken only by Clark two desperate but unavailing efforts to cross the western goal in the last quarter. The Bucknell star made some of the greatest line plunges of the game in that final rush but the western forwards had the stamina to withstand his attack in the shadows of their goal. It was the third all-eastern victory in the seventh meeting with all-westerners, the west having won four of the previous games.

Bill Morton of Dartmouth, Gene McEve of Tennessee and Reb Rilssell of Northwestern shared backfield honors with Hinkle. It was Morton's winning in the exchange of punts that put the east in scoring position. Starting from the 24-yard line, the east worked the ball to the two-yard line. Frank Hoffman, Notre great guard, opened a hole through which Purvis dived over the line. The two lines were powers on offense and defense, with eastern weight turning the tide against the west.
