ABILENE DAILY REPORTER, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER fit, 1M7. OUTLOOK IS BLUE THE YALE SEEMS BEST OF THEM ALU PRINCETON WILL BE SECOND Yield Palm to the Blue Elctrii la the Fiereest Battle of the Season. Here's to old Eli! Three cheers and a Tiger to the peerless undefeated Yale eleven, the best team in the east, west, north, south, and the classiest fennch of the football players who ever backed a line. It was a grand game grandly Orange and Black and Blue duel, and the best team iron. Yale showed what college spirit, gameness and the do-or-dle spirit can accomplish.

Outplayed at all stages of the game in the first half, closing the half with a score of 10 to 0 against ber, the blue warrlorB came back in the second half with that indomitable, fighting spirit that has always terised the sons of old Eli, and that could not be denied. Before the game the betting was 2 to 1 on Yale, but after ten minutes play, after Harlan bad kicked an easy drop kick from the twenty-five yard line and the terrible McCormick was tearing great boles in the Yale line, the men who had ered 2 to 1 odds on Yale were kissing their money goodbye, figuratively speaking, and the betting had switched to even money. By the time Tihbott had made his touchdown the betting was ranging anywhere from 5 to 10 to 1 on Princeton. Fabulous tales are told of the betting among the students on that day. The only one that is credited is the following: Among the Tiger partisans was one ycuth who stood In the tonneau of his new $5,000 touring car.

shouting: Ten to one on the Tigers. Ten to one says Princeton wins. Fifteen to Right here a loyal Ell stopped him. he said, drawing forth a rather slender roll that had been doubtless already strippeed in jackpots, call that much money you the Princeton man asked. hundred Whereupon the student from Nassau who was really dead-game, rose magnificently to the occasion.

"1 will put my car against your roll that the Tigers he said, and the bet was made. Needless to say, the Princeton student went home a sadder and a wiser man. Yale won strictly on straight football, line plunging and mass plays. Here the blue fullback Coy proved his class. Called upon again and again, the giant sophomore fairly ripped the Princeton line to pieces, gaining five and ten years on every down.

In all, Coy made three touchdown, but only two were allowed. What do you know about him for the All-American? HUGHES -CO. the members of the team being selected not according to their weight, but of their conception of the new game: Mount Pleasant, Carlisle, quarter; Glaze.

Dartmouth, and Harlan, Princeton, halves: Coy, Yale, full; Wlster, Prlncton, and Blake, Vanderbilt, ends; Burr, Harvard, and Biglow, Yale, tackles; Thompson, Cornell, and Ziegler, guards; and Stone, Vanderbilt, center. This is a team that can cope with the best of them Crimson ou the Toboggan. Alas, poor Harvard! To lose to the Carlisle Indians is not so bad, but to have it rubbed Into you by little old Dartmouth is about the biggest disgrace I can think of right now. The Crimson are on the toboggan nil right. The Springfield Training school hit the first slap when they held Harvard to nine points.

Brown came near whipping them, and the Indians helped the work along by beating them out cf their socks. When Harvard hit Dartmouth they were whipped already, disorganized and otherwise to the blink The result was never In doubt. Glaze and Ingersol! and the Dartmouth line overwhelmed the Crimson, winning by a score of 22 to 0. This was the game wherein I predicted a victory for Harvard by the score of 6 to 0 I did not know really what a bad fix the Crimson were in. Now I do, and I predict that Yale will win that game today on Field by a score of not less than 18 to 0 What did I tell you about Yale beating Princeton? But most everybody thought that way before the game.

I said the Indians would beat Minnesota on a good field and they did; also that Penn was slated to win from Michigan, if their men played to true form, which they did, a thing by the way which greatly surprised me. I knew what the army would do to Tufts, thought Cornell would down Swarthmore and predicted that Penn State would beat the Navy 6 to 4. That was the score all right, but the dope was reversed. The Middies proved to have the better team. What Vanderbilt was going to do to Tech and Texas to Oklahoma was a foregone conclusion.

Now here is my prediction for games and also those for Thanksgiving: What Yale will do to Harvard will be a plenty, 18 to 0, let us say. The Crimson haven't as much show to win that game as a bunch of High school players. If they score It will be on a fluke The Army will beat Syracuse, but by not as large a score as one would Imagine. That Syracuse team Is a corker this year. 18 to 4 ought to hit that about right.

The Navy will beat Virginia Polytechnic without any trouble, but the matter of piling up the score Is doubtful. Not more than 12 to 0 at any rate. Brown will beat Amherst as much as 9 to 4. Wisconsin and Minnesota at game will be a good one. Minnesota is on the whole stronger than Wisconsin and barring flukes, should win 10 to 4.

Indiana and Illinois, probably an Indiana victory by a medium score. Indians Versus Maroons. Now we have the game of the west, indeed the one that will decide whether the west is in the class with the Eastern teams. Carlisle and Chicago, at Chicago. The dope in this game seems to favor the Maroons slightly, but if the day Is clear and dry, give me the Indians.

They are up against the real thing, all right, but with the wonderful Mount Pleasant going good, the Indian team ought to be able to come off with the long score in this game. Let us call it an Indian victory, with the score 8 to 4 or 4 to 0, and not be surprised at a 4 to 4 draw, and see how It works. Now comes the Thanksgiving games. Turkey Day iuntests. Here we have the last games of foot ball In the 1907 season, save the Army Navy affair on Saturday the 30th at Philadelphia.

First of all, naturally comes Pennsylvania and Cornell. Give me the Ithicans here. I believe they are good to win this battle, that is, on forui. 1 will concede the Pennsylvania team to be oue of the best in the country, perhaps the superior of Cornell, when they are in trim. But I am figuring on them not being in trim for this game, i believe they are due for another slump.

Call It a Cornell victory, with the score standing 18 to 6 Now comes the greatest struggle iu the and This game will be a grand one, full of sensational work and a sure demonstration of the benefits of the new rules, but it can have but oue result. Vanderbilt will beat Sewanee as sure as yqp or I are living. The game be a cinch, but It a 111 go to Vanderbilt, juat the same. Where la there an equal to Bob Blake. Stein Stone and Sam Costen? Not in the South.

16 to 6 Is my guess Everybody watch Captain Walter Barrett of 8ewaaee and aee what kind of game he puta up against the Commodores He lived here once and we are Justly proud of him. Whut have we here? Texas and A 4 M. B-r-r-r! I dread to forecast this game. The Varalty and Farmer enthusiasts in this town are about In equal numbers, and the dope for this game is a mighty ticklish matter. On form alone, Texas should win, on dope she should win, from comparison of the seasons record she should win, All things considered, I believe Varsity will cop this game.

Texas has a better conception of the new rules than the Farmers, and lighter and faster. Kelly Is a whole team in himself, but he is sure to be set upon from the time the game beings by three and four men together. 20 to 0 for Texas is my prediction. Now you have the dope. How will it come out? TO THE FRONT STOCKYARD That fierce McFarland is still coming up in the lightweight ranks.

He do a thing to Kid Herman Thursday night in Des Moines The bout was for twelve rounds, and on account of It being against the law, no decision was awarded. But McFarland nearly beat the Kid to death, pointed him at all stages and all but knocked him out It looks as though Herman was about all-in-. a shame too. Not so very long ago he had a'l the earmarks of a coming champion. McFarland is now the logical challenger of Jimmy Burns.
