CIO Council Tuesday endorsed a pending County Legislature resolu tion calling for a series of work sessions between Bethlehem Steel Corp government and labor representatives to help solve the steel compa fiscal problems in Lackawanna Legislature Chairman Richard A Slisz Cheektowaga said the resolution introduced by rancis Pordum Blasdell calls for the county Industrial Development Agency to organ ize meetings between Bethlehem Lackawanna county state and United Steelworkers Union officials to identify possible ways to help Mr Slisz a member of the Execu tive Committee said some of the areas to be ex plored include state aid for Lackawanna federal money to help Bethlehem modernize the plant and channeling defense contracts to the plant got $19 million from the state last year in overburden aid Lackawanna got noth ing They cannot reduce taxes with out help from Lackawanna officials have tried for years to get state help to offset a $13 million loss in as sessment when the State Legislature enacted the Machinery Exemption Act which took some new forum in front of the closed doors Mr Paxon believes problems of Bethlehem Steel keep getting bandied about between Responding to Mr claim that request for the special Legislature session was an one of Mr witch Mr Paxon said Mr Slisz wants to call the sav ing of 6000 jobs and one of this most important industries a witch hunt
