It was first Southeastern Conference victory of the season and the biggest scoring soiree in a Tiger SEC game. But it was an expensive victory for a team already hobbled by injuries. The shutout was the second; straight over the Gamecocks! for Georgia, which blanked the rivals from the Atlantaic Coast Conference 7-0 a year ago. Georgia, whose attack was blunted throughout the game by the South Carolina defense, had little luck passing with Moore hitting on only three of eight throws for 29 yards.

One of his tosses was intercepted by Wally Orrell and returned to the Georgia 26. However, Kohn picked off pass five plays later and Moore sent Georgia in front to stay with his outburst on the second play of the second quarter. Fair, trying to penetrate the aggressive Georgia defenses, tossed 25 passes but he hit on only eight and had two picked off. Except for scoring run, Georgia had only one other scoring chance in the first half. 18-yard pass to Billy Payne moved the Bulldogs to South 22, but Jim McCullough was wide on a field goal try, his first miss this year after four perfect kicks.

The Bulldogs gave up only 76 yards rushing and 60 yards passing, while grinding out 295 yards on the ground themselves. Jenkins was the No. 2 rusher with 69 yards on 18 carries. Georgia punter Spike Jones averaged 41 yards on his dozen kicks, and Scott Townsend averaged 40 for the Gamecocks. BIRMINGHAM, Ala.

Dicky Thompson recovered three Mississippi fumbles and quarterback Kenny Stabler led Alabama to a 21-7 Southeastern Conference victory over Mississippi Saturday. The conquest before ai national television audience and 69,821 fans continued domination over the rebels, who last defeated the Tide in 1910. Stabler threw a speedy Dennis Homan for one score, ran eight yards for another and led the Tide on an 88-yard drive for the final touchdown. Ed Morgan who had picked up most of the yardage on the drive took the last one in from the one. The Tide defense, uncertain in its first two games, gave indications of maturing as Alabama picked up its second victory against a tie.

Mississippi now has won one and lost two. All three of fumble recoveries were set up by driving tackles by Tide defenders. Neither team was able to do much for most of the first half until Billy Scroggins recovered a fumble on the Rebel 42. Stabler led the Tide to the 11 and then threw a strike to Homan, alone in the end zone. recovery early in the second half gave the Tide the ball on the Ole Miss 31 and four plays later Stabler ran eight yards off tackle to score.

After moving primarily on passing for its first two scores, Stabler turned Morgan loose on a series of runs as if to prove the Tide could handle the larger Ole Miss line. The 88 yards took 14 plays, all on the ground except for two tosses to Homan. Mississippi picked up its score with 9:31 left in the game when Terry Collier threw a 23-yard pass to Mac Haik in the end zone. ATLANTA, Ga. of the Clemson-Georgia Tech football game: Clemion Ga.

Before his game-winning kick, Butler had missed on attempts from 47, 48 and 53 yards. The old Grant Field jinx prevailed again against Frank Tigers after they had played fifth-ranked Georgia a close game the previous week.

But the Tigers made only three first downs in the first half and were helpless to take advantage of numerous Tech mistakes in the second half. A blocked kick gave Clemson a golden opportunity in the fourth quarter at the Tech 23, but the Jackets held and a 25- yard field goal attempt by Steedley Chandler was wide to the left. James Neill kicked the extra point and fate was sealed. In the only long sustained drive of the game, the Bulldogs marched 72 yards on 15 plays, with only two passes being attempted. One was a key third down jump pass to end Stu Scheer.

That kept the drive going at the Tech 39. The Maroons completely outplayed the 10th ranked Red Raiders, who seldom were able to launch any offensive and spent most of the night in their own end of the field. Helping the Bulldogs was a tenacious defensive line, which repeatedly blunted the running efforts of quarterback John Scovell and halfbacks Mike Lein ert and Kenny Baker. The last time Clemson beat the Jackets was 21-7 in 1945. mistakes in the second half were of the offensive variety as time and again the Jacket deep men fumbled punts. The Tigers, however, were only able to recover one, by Jimmy Brown, in the final quarter. Brown attempted to field a partially blocked kick by Sammy Cain, which would have given Tech good field position. But he bumbled, and Han-y Olszewski recovered to give Clemson another chance.

Tech held, however, and the Tigers were forced to punt. King completed 9 of 20 pass attempts for 90 yards with one interception. Addison completed only 3 of 17 attempts for 24 yards. Clemson tailback Buddy Gore led all ground gainers with 59 yards on 17 carries, while Lenny Snow had 57 yards on 12 carries. Tech coaches praised the defensive play of Eastman, who in addition to his interception, blocked several other pass attempts.

His interception was a one-handed catch. Clemson was able to make only eight first downs in the game, compared to 15. Although Tech was a touchdown favorite, Clemson had been picked by some to upset the jackets after losing only 2417 to Georgia last week. But the Tech defense played its finest game of the season and Clemson only got inside the Tech 20 on one occasion. The Tigers failed to make it.

Blakeney, a junior from Gordo, replaced Carter at quarterback in the second period with Tigers guarding a 13-7 lead.

He went to work immediately, firing a 10-yard scoring pass to Mike Shows, another for 22 yards to Freddie Hyatt, and then broke through for 11 yards for a personal touchdown. He put the Tigers within scoring range on that drive with runs of 21 and 24 yards. Kentucky quarterback Dicky Lyons, rated by Auburn scouts as one of the most serious threats in the conference, scored the touchdown on a 71-yard punt return. But he went to the sidelines shortly thereafter with a rib injury and never re-entered the game. scoring passes were story book plays.

On third down and long yardage in the second period, Blakeney connected with Tim Christian for 30 yards to the Kentucky 13 andjl then on third down again he found Mike Shows in the end zone for 10 yards and the touch- down. Only seven seconds remained in the half as Blakeney, who had yielded momentarily to Carter in calling the plays, went back in and threw the 22-yard scoring pass to Hyatt. So stingy was the Auburn defense that the Wildcats finished the game with a minus two yards rushing and only 89 yards in the air. The Tigers, showing their best ground attack in three games this season, piled up 144 yards afoot and another 291 passing. The Wildcats were still left winless this year.

Before coming to Auburn, they had lost to Indiana and Mississippi.
