A fire Tuesday morning gutted a body shop near Tomah Jerry Phillips, owner of Body Shop, reported the fire at his establishment to the Oakdale fire department at 10:43 a.m. The shop is Jocated on Highway 21 about two miles east of Tomah Gervase Schie of the Oakdale fire department said the 30-by-50-foot metal building was completely gutted by the time firemen arrived.

Schie said a small pickup truck and a van that were in the shop were destroyed. He also said various shop tools, such as an air compressor, were lost in the blaze When asked of the possible cause Schie said Phillips thought it could have been ignited from a welding torch. An exact cause, however, is not known Schie estimated the damage to the building itself at about $10,000 He said he had no idea what the damage was to the contents The board had recommended a budget figure of $20,000 for membership in the system, but the County Board Finance Committee cut that figure to $15,188 at last week's budget hearings.
