CAWEIN A project to provide addi-j tional senior citizen housing through the efforts of a newly formed non profit corporation uill depend on negotiations for the purchase of the Stuyvesant Hotel at John and Fair Streets, it revealed today. A plan is under study by Stuyvesant Apartments for the purchase of the hotel for. $130,000 and remodeling into 50 or 75 units for low or middle income senior citizens. Preliminary plans of the new corporation would include ex -j tensive renovations estimated to cost $450,000. All funds would he made available through the New York Housing Finance Agency when and if the pro gram for purchase and remodeling is approved by that' agency.

Sidney Treinkman is the pres 1 ent hotel operator. The new non profit corporation is awaiting; approval of its incorporation application from the Supreme Court in Albany. Officers of the new corpora lion will include former Kingston mayor William F. Edelmuth. president.

Fdelmuth. president of Gateway Industries was mayor from 1912 to 1947. Edelmuth also serves as a county legislator representing the City of Kingston. Vice president will be V. James Andretta president of Colony Liquor Distributors Inc.

John T. Sullivan, executive director of Gateways was named secretary; Harry du Bois former general manager of The Freeman is treasurer; George M. Jacobson, president of State Fish was named trustee, and John L. Larkin, attorney for the corporation. All are serving without pay.

Need Albany Approval The sale of the 57-year old hotel can be finalized as soon as the newly formed corporation is approved by Albany and the state agency approves the plans and purchase. Preliminary plans for re-, modeling would include airi conditioning of each an electric range, refrigerator! and bath. Each apartment; would be carpeted and the ele-j vator in operation would be modernized and changed over to self service. The apartments would be made available to low and mid die income senior citizens and current plans call for rent range from $48 to $75 peri month. Gateway Industries Field Court served as the unofficial sponsor of the project.

The new corporation would retain the main floor of the ho-j tel as a game room and meet-i ing hall for all senior citizens of the community. Alexander Yosman. director! of Kingston Housing Authority) served as technical adviser during all planning sessions and negotiations with New York WILLIAM F. EDELMUTH Housing Finance Agency for the funds to operate. A service charge to the City of Kingston for providing the usual services such as police.

Are. refuse collection and others will be offered by the new corporation in later negotiations. The hotel was purchased in (1966 from the Small Business Administration by Treinkman. former owner and operator of the Huntington Hotel in this city and it was operated as the Stuyvesant Motor Hotel. In November of 1965 an auction was held to sell the hotel pursuant to a judgment of foreclosure and the hotel was purchased by the Small Business Administration for $80,000.

1911 Construction The Stuyvesant was constructed in 1911 and operated by the Ulster County Hdtel under the management of James S. Winne. president. In the mid-50's the hotel had jbeen owned and controlled by various hotel men, including the late Frederick T. Eislcr, who served as managing director until his death.

Subsequently the hotel was sold to a combine of local business and professional fnen knowm as the Hudson Valley Hotelcries with Trrink- man as manager. The hotel was being renovated in 1956 when on April 18 a fire which started in a second-floor room swept through the building causing an estimated $200,000 in damage. The thair City GARDNER.
