FSA Unit Blasts ICC Over Ban on Drivers With Faulty Hearing A proposed Interstate Commerce Commission restriction to prevent persons with partial loss of hear- ing from driving interstate buses and trucks has drawn a sharp blast from the Federal Security Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Miss Mary E. Switzer, OVR director, charged that the ICC proposal completely ignores the possibility of correction with hearing aids and would force drivers who need hearing aids off the road. The proposal would require that an interstate driver would have to be able to hear a conversational tone at 10 feet that a person with normal hearing could hear at 20 feet. is like insisting that a driver must have good eyesight without Miss Switzer said."
