Music, dancing, games, food and memorabilia all will be part of the sesquicentennial of Monticello, the Piatt County seat. The opening is Friday with open houses and promotions at local stores. The courthouse, county jail and library will be open for tours. In downtown, the WDZQ Nashville North Road Show will entertain. Founders Day is July 18.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. Planned are a flea market, farmer's market. norse races. 1 p.m. Fnday.

Gate admission of S3 to 58 includes grandstand events. ednesday flower and vegetable show, pet show and window displays. The Sesquicentennial First Lady will be chosen at 8:30 p.m. during a ball at Hott Mansion. The Monticello Theater Association will perform "Spoon River Anthology" at 2 p.m.

July 19. A worship service will begin at 6 p.m. in Forest Preserve Park, followed by an ice cream social. The theater group will also perform the play at 7:30 p.m. July 20.

During the day, festivities will center on senior citizens with quilting demonstrations, a rocking chair marathon and spelling bee. Games and contest for children are planned July 21. Street entertainers will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A teen dance will be at 8 p.m. in the celebration tent.

At 9 p.m., a history pageant will begin on a stage at the Monticello High School athletic fields, with fireworks afterward. PRAIRIE STATE GAMES, University Of Illinois campus, Urbana. through July 18. Opening ceremony. Assembly Hall.

Today's entertainment will include dance demonstrations by the Decatur Promenaders, Decatur Boot Kickers. Pride City Squares and the Country Cloggers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vocalist Matt Mo Bride will sing at noon. Sunday's entertainment is to be announced.
