Thursday at the funeral home. Injunction Lifted On Dredging Of Mississippi MADISON, Wis. (AP) An injunction limiting Army Corps of Engineers dredging of the Mississippi River was lifted Wednesday by U.S. District Court. Judge James E.

Doyle said the corps, whose dumping of dredge materials on the Wisconsin side of the river was challenged by the state, has filed an environmental impact statement. A request by the Wisconsin Justice Department that a 1973 temporary injunction against the dredging of the navigation channel be reinstated was denied by Doyle. Since May 1974, the corps has been allowed to dredge only limited sections along 230 miles of the channel. Wisconsin said dumping of approximately 700,000 tons of mud on lands along the Wisconsin shore every year caused pollution of backwaters, damaging fish and wildlife habitat. The corps said there was no economical alternative for disposing of dredging spoils.

Doyle gave state officials until May 2 to request a new preliminary injunction against unlimited dredging. La Crosse Tribune, Thursday, April 24, Bankruptcy Forces Bond Switch Giant Warehouse Sale Now In Progress FURNITURE WAREHOUSE 325 SOUTH 3RD ST. Ph. 784-3674 STORES IN 3 MINNESOTA AND IOWA Performance bonds for a second city building project must be switched to another bonding company because a Madison company has filed for bankruptcy. The La Crosse Housing Authority Wednesday said that bonds on two subcontractors for a day-care center construction project in progress will have to be switched from Wisconsin Surety Co.

Hengel Brothers Plumbing Co. and Arrow Electric both of La Crosse, will be notified by the housing authority in a letter approved by the authority board Wednesday. Earlier this month, bonds on contractors involved with a building project at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute were affected by the bonding apparent failure. Authority board members Wednesday also were told that a 76-unit low-income housing project, for which bids have been taken, has been further delayed in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Joseph Becker, authority board president, said he was informed that the review of the bids has been sent from Milwaukee to the Chicago regional office. Bids, which were taken more than three weeks ago, were approximately $80,000 under the estimates and Becker said he can not understand the delay. The high-rise for low-income elderly and handicapped persons is scheduled for construction south of the present Stoffel Court on South 7th Street near Cass. Authority officals are also concerned over a long delay in response to an application to the Wisconsin Housing and Finance Authority for funds for another high-rise proposed for the Forest Park area off West Avenue. This project is scheduled to include 120 units for moderate-income elderly and handicapped persons.

Becker said. If state building funds for this project are not forthcoming, other avenues are open, according to Becker, including again applying to HUD. The board approved a letter to the state authority asking for a yes or no on the project proposal. A zoning change for the Forest Park site is scheduled to be considered by the La Crosse Common Council next month, the board was told. It would change a one-block area from a residential and local business classification to a multiple- dwelling distinction.

Becker said. A decision on increasing asset limitations for initial occupancy for low-income housing authority dwellings was deferred until the next meeting of the board.
