Pope Accepts Resignation Of Ailing Cardinal Cushing Legal Notices VATICAN CITY (AP)-Pope Paul VI has accepted the resignation reasons of age and of Richard Cardinal Cushing of Boston, the Vatican announced today. The Most Rev. Humberto S. Medeiros, 54, bishop of Brownsville, since April 1966, was appointed to replace Cardinal Cushing as the Boston archbishop.
